NoseGo makes giclée prints that aren’t terrible

Longtime readers of Vandalog may know that I have a pretty strong dislike of giclée prints. Typically, they are not all that well printed, and they are extremely overpriced. I don’t know anything as high-margin for artists as a giclée print. But NoseGo recently came out with three giclées that prove my point about pricing and buck the trend. These three 8.5″ x 11″ prints, editions of 50 each, are on sale on NoseGo’s website for just $10 each. Not a bad deal, and NoseGo still shouldn’t have much trouble making a buck or two for himself off of these. I can’t speak to the quality of the printing, but the images certainly are cute and I don’t know NoseGo as the type of artist to put out sub-par work just to make a buck off his fans. You can pick up the prints here.

OBEY is the drug

That thing above this text? Yeah, that’s Love is The Drug, the latest print by Shepard Fairey. When people complain about Fairey’s work not being up to the standard that it once was, this might be the sort of product that they’re thinking about.

I don’t think it’s entirely fair to criticize Fairey for putting out mediocre prints from time to time. After all, he puts out a lot of work. Not all of it is going to be great. But this one just seems particularly disappointing. Love is The Drug is red and black and gold, and nobody would care about it if Shepard Fairey’s signature wasn’t in the lower right corner and an OBEY star logo wasn’t in the top left.

Despite the weak image, my bet is that the print will still sell out in less than an hour once it is released for sale sometime on Tuesday.

APC print release (with a contest) at Mula Printing

If you aren’t sold solely on the opportunity to own a limited edition print by a member of the APC crew (including Stinkfish, BuytronickMeca Mutanterio and Lorenzo Masnah), than Mula Printing has included a bit of artistic competition to this collective print release to sweeten the deal: The first 40 to buy one of these APC prints will be eligible to partake a coloring contest using this unfinished Pez piece. The winner, who will be chosen by Pez himself, will receive an original drawing by Pez. Buying a print includes the chance to win a Pez print from an edition of 6 as well.

Stinkfish. “Spine Baby” 10 of each color available.
Buytronick. “Ritmo Prehisterico” edition of 35.
Lorenzo Masnah. “Bogotaxi” edition of 35.
Meca Mutanterio. “Jardin De Hierba” edition of 35.

Nychos at 1xRun

Nychos has two prints available right now at 1xRun. The prints are different colorways of an image called Ghetto Bird. The blue Ghetto Bird is an edition of 15 and available for $100. The tan version is an edition of 40 and is available for $50. 1xRun’s prints are only available for a limited amount of time, even when they don’t sell out, so you’ve only got about a week to pick up one of these Nychos prints before they go into 1xRun’s archives.

New wall and a handfinished prints from Jaz

Click to view large. Photo by Jaz.

Jaz‘s latest wall continues his experimentation with using different materials for his paint. Eleccion was painted in Buenos Aires with coal and lime paint, the same kind of super-long-lasting paint that is used by politicians who hire crews of people to illegally paint ads for them all over the city. Here’s an example of one of those ads.

Jaz also has a print release this week with StreetArtNews. The print, Observadores, is a handfinished 1-color print depicting wrestlers in the ring. It will go on sale on the StreetArtNews website this Thursday. More info here.

Lush for Pictures on Walls

Lush‘s first print with Pictures on Walls will be available next week, July 3rd. As you can see in the above video, it’s not your usual screenprint, but a fold-in a bit like MAD Magazine’s famous back page fold-ins. The prints will come already creased, so don’t worry about messing that up if you’re not too good with folding paper I guess…

The 8-color screenprints will be available from POW’s website on July 3rd for £125 each, and it’s an edition of 100.
