Do you want Elfo’s Facebook login info? We have it.

Elfo has just given up the keys to his Facebook account for a piece he is calling Free Login. This begins what is intended to be a 10-day digital performance something like a modern version of Marina Abramović’s Rhythm 0 or Yoko Ono’s Cut Piece. You can now log in to his elfostreetart@yahoo.it account using the password “smokesmoke” to have full access to his account. Of course, someone could change the password at any moment, keeping the performance going on for longer than intended. Assuming Elfo still has access to his account at the end of this, Free Login will be over on July 11th.

Ok, so I am super late on this post, it’s almost July. I’ve been extremely busy this last month working on an introduction to a friend’s street art book and also some exciting projects here in Melbourne (as well as taking care of my good mates Melbourne Street art blog while he is away), all of which I hope to share with you soon.

Welling Court Mural Project launches fourth year

For the fourth consecutive year Ad Hoc Art has brought dozens of artists to the Welling Court community in Astoria, Queens, transforming it into a first-rate open air museum. Here’s a small sampling of what could be seen this weekend:

Weekend link-o-rama

Sorry for all the downtime on Vandalog this week. I dunno what’s up with Vandalog’s web host. If you have suggestions of a good web host that I could move to (even though I just switched to Gandi), let me know. Anyway, here’s what I’ve been reading:

Wow. Cannon Dill and Brett Flanigan painted some great walls together as they traveled across the USA earlier this year.
I always love checking in on what Mathieu Tremblin is up to.
BSA have been keeping tabs on Judith Supine’s recent wheatpastes in NYC.
Know Hope participated in issue 11 of Dispose, an publication where interesting people are given a disposable camera to take 27 photos in 24 hours.
Decertor really did a nice job with this mural in Morocco.
Liu Bolin got himself painted into a piece by Meres and Zeso at 5 Points, the graffiti mecca in NYC that unfortunately may soon be no more.
Did you catch Austin McManus‘ Partner in Crime photo series in Juxtapoz earlier this year? Now you can get the series in zine form.
LNY’s solo show at Solo(s) Project house in Newark just ended. But here are some photos.
Shift//Delete recently projected a video onto the famous Gherkin building in London and turned the building into a giant, masterbating, penis.
Planning to protest the G8? Peter Kennard has some great posters for you to download and use.
Blade is in the Netherlands for a series of graffiti jams and a show in Amsterdam.

Welling Court Mural Project 2013

After three successful years and over a hundred murals curated, Ad Hoc Art is kicking off this summer’s Welling Court Mural Project with a block party! The event’s food, music, dancing and live painting will open to the public on June 15th from 2pm til 8pm at 11-98 Welling Court (@ 30th Ave & 12th Street) in Astoria, Queens. In order to make such a cool thing happen (and free for the public, at that) there is a need for volunteers, so if you’d like to lend a hand contact info@adhocart.org.

The line up is amazing, bringing back some favorites and honing in some new and foreign talent. This year artists include (I tried to limit this to just a few…) Aiko, Beau Stanton, Billy Mode, Celso, Chris RWK, Clown Soldier, Dan Witz, Dennis McNett, Don Leicht, Ellis Gallagher, Feral, Fumero, Gaia, Gilf!, Hellbent, Ian Kuali’I, Icy & Sot, Joe Iurato, John Fekner, Kenny Scharf, Lady Pink, M-City, Mare139, Maya Hayuk, Never, ND’A, Roa, Royce Bannon, SeeOne, Sheryo, The Yok, Skewville, Veng RWK and many, many more.

Presenting Elian for PUENTE

Last month, I wrote about the emerging movement of street art events and projects in South America, the different social dynamics that create a variant dialogue towards street art and community involvement in activities that promote cultural development and accessible art for all. I now present you Elian‘s mural for PUENTE, a public art project organized by Kosovo Gallery in Córdoba, Argentina. Elian took the initiative of challenging ways of creating public space by using street art as a tool that changes urban environments. He says that PUENTE “seeks to reclaim city spaces that are out of condition through the street art, improving street lighting, keeping the space clean, fixing access for people with disabilities and other things related to the environment.” PUENTE will be an on going initiative that will bring many artists from Argentina and other parts of the globe to participate in creating safer places for everyone.

Melbourne Monthly Madness – March

Damn. It’s almost May! Sorry this is so late but it’s worth the wait. March was another action packed month in Melbourne.

Starting off with Baby Guerrilla‘s show in Footscray. Baby Guerrilla’s paste ups have been adorning Melbourne’s walls for a few years now, and they are some of my favourites, her gallery work was new for me and I loved seeing a different side of the artist.

Adnate was 1 of 3 Melbourne graffiti/street artists that entered the renowned Archibald prize. From the Archibald website “The Archibald Prize is awarded annually to the best portrait, ‘preferentially of some man or woman distinguished in art, letters, science or politics, painted by any artist resident in Australasia’.” It’s great to see some more modern painting techniques making it into this more conventional competition. Adnate painted a portrait of Samantha Harris; an Australian indigenous model. Also make sure you check out the video by Michael Danischewski below.

Living Walls release their first printed project

Living Walls, Altanta’s public art organization focused on work by street artists and graffiti writers, are released their first printed work this week. Living Walls Volumes focuses on their work with the French artist Roti and his experiences in Atlanta (the most famous experience being that the mural he painted was partially buffed by local community members who objected to the content). The launch party for the book is on Tuesday at Criminal Records in Atlanta.

I haven’t seen much of the finished product, but I’m really excited for Living Walls Volumes. The Roti story is a really interesting and complex one that deserves some serious consideration, the book looks really well designed, and I wrote the forward. Weekend link-o-rama

So as finals exams and essays begin to creep up on me (70-ish pages to write in the next month), these link-o-rama posts are going to become essential until the school year is up, so you know, I encourage you to read them closely.

Aryz has a solo show coming up in San Fransisco at Upper Playground’s Fifty24SF. David Choe is a fan, and says that it’s gonna be a “feeding frenzy” with collectors wanting to buy out the show 100x over even before anyone has seen the work.
Of course, if you’re looking for something you can get your hands on, I’m loving this print from Unga.
Ron English recently released a monochrome grey version of his Temper Tot figure on his website.
Sam3 gets me every time.
The Carbon Festival is on this weekend in Melbourne.
I’ve got to hand it to TrustoCorp for making this sweet suitcase device to spray stencils in broad daylight. They also been distributing a bunch of custom cereal box artworks (in collaboration with other artists like Shepard Fairey) around LA for people to hunt down.
Those pretty blah painted shutters near the New Museum are getting painted again. Sounds like more blah.
