Pictures on Walls Print Releases

Yesterday, Pictures on Walls (yeah, they are dominating the site this week. Sorry about that…) released two new prints by artists Anthony Micallef and Mark Sinckler. Micallef’s (above) is a beautiful black and white piece entitled “A Small Print of What I Think Love Looks Like.” The other is Sinkler’s quite controversial piece entitled “Age of Shiva.” The Renaissance-stylized work addressing the 7/7 bombings in London has become quite talked about since its release. It is also featured in the main window of the Pictures and Walls show “Marks & Stencils” going on right now in Soho. Personally, I don’t find the piece that shocking, but it is more the timing of its release with the recent inquests occurring that is upsetting people. It also cannot help that the title is not exactly the most politically correct choice by the artist, but of course that is the point. I do enjoy the fact that it isn’t just another pretty picture, but speaks to viewers in some way, positive or negative. It provokes more than just the reaction of whether the piece is “good or bad.”

Both prints are editions of 100. Micallef’s is available for 450 pounds. Sinckler’s is 150 pounds. Both can be purchased (if they haven’t sold out yet) at POW or Marks & Stencils.

Faile prints and more on sale today

At noon Eastern time today, Faile will be releasing some new prints in their online shop. No images yet, but I’ll update the post later. The three prints are all 18-colors and will be available for $800. Okay. So Faile are releasing another print. What I think is really awesome is the other item going on sale today: Faile Bedtime Stories Blocks. Basically, those are a box of 8 random space wooden blocks from their current solo show. You might say that Faile are just slapping together some random stuff from their studio and selling it, and maybe they are, but it reminds me of the décollage style that Faile try to emulate in their art. In short, I think the blocks are awesome. Those are an edition of 150 and will be available for $150.

Keep an eye on Faile’s online store for these items to go live any minute.

UPDATE: Here are images of the prints and blocks…

Unknown artist

Just got back from Jordan Seiler’s show at Vincent Michael Gallery. I’ll have more on that in the next few days, but I found an awesome store in the same area as the gallery: Jinxed. It sells cool toys and the like. Here’s what I didn’t write about this week while I was busy procrastinating and thinking about The Underbelly Project.

Alex Pardee & Greg “Craola” Simkins Halloween Print Release

Two of my favorite artists of all time Alex Pardee and Greg “Craola” Simkins recently teamed up to create this special Halloween print appropriately entitled “The Orange Lantern”. I can’t think of a cooler collaboration and the concept fits both of these guys perfectly!

The print is now available as an ultra limited giclee print from Zerofriends. Each print is hand signed and numbered and also comes packaged with a FREE additional 10″ x 8″ print displaying the story of The Orange Lantern which you can read in full on Alex’s  Juxtapoz Blog.

Available now: Vandalog t-shirts

As you may have seen mentioned on my Twitter, I’ve been working with a few artists that I admire to make a series of t-shirts.

Today, the first three in a line of Vandalog t-shirts are available online. All three are designs are artworks by people that I admire. These aren’t your standard artist collaborations though. There are a few things that make these shirts unique. Yes, Vandalog now has a clothing label, but nowhere on these t-shirts will you find the Vandalog name. This project was conceived as being about the artists as much as possible. Additionally, these aren’t the sort of thing that you’ll find 40 of in every Urban Outfitters throughout the world. There are less than shirts 40 with each design in the world. That was intentional. These t-shirts are screenprints, except that they were printed on fabric instead of paper and they aren’t signed by the artists. Luckily, all these shirts are significantly cheaper than screenprints on paper, at $30 each plus shipping.

So who was involved? Gaia, Troy Lovegates aka Other and Faro have contributed designs to this clothing label/experiment.

Gaia

Gaia’s shirt is an edition of 37. Gaia is a young street artist (and blogger for this site) based between Baltimore and New York. There’s still about one week left to see his current show with Lex & Sten in New York City. The artwork is a portrait of his grandfather, which you may have seen outside.

Faro

Faro’s shirt is an edition of 34. Faro is a mummy-obsessed artist and graffiti writer who you may have seen around New York City. His graffiti is cool and it’s how we at Vandalog first heard about Faro, but his drawings are what really sets him apart, which is why Faro’s shirt is based on this drawing.

Other

Troy Lovegates aka Other’s shirt is an edition of 35. Troy Lovegates is a Canadian artist who likes to draw outside, often with his friend Labrona, as well as make beautiful prints and paintings indoors. I’d say Troy is probably my favorite Canadian street artist. Also, he recently had a cool book of his art published.

All these shirts are available now at Vandalog’s online shop for $30 each plus shipping.

Recent mural by Eine. Photo by Unusualimage

Well it was the first week of midterms for me, so lots of time was spent locking myself in my room, turning off the wifi and just studying. On the plus side, had a great meeting today trying to get some grant money from my college to bring street artists to campus and I took a nap on what might just be the world’s comfiest couch. So here’s what I haven’t had the chance to blog with all that school stuff going on:

  • I’ll be running a modified version of my street art tours next Friday at the Moniker Art Fair. The tour will be free and we’ll being checking out the fair as well as some of the street art in Shoreditch nearby. That will be from 1-2:30 11:30-1pm and 1:30-3:00pm next Friday afternoon at Moniker.
  • Unurth has photos of Escif’s latest murals.
  • Kaws blogged some teaser shots of his upcoming book.
  • Feral has been posting a lot of photos on his flickr over the past month of the interesting work he’s been making.
  • Mike put together a nice overview of FAME Festival for Arrested Motion
  • The latest in the line of shows Yosi Sergant (previously involved with Manifest Hope and Manifest Equality) has worked on, Re:Form School looks to be another massive group show advocating a good cause. It is open in New York this weekend only.
  • Kofie has a solo show opening this weekend at White Walls in San Fransisco. The opening reception is on Saturday evening. Check out The Citrus Report for more info.
  • LAB (Little Art Book) has a pop-up shop in London starting today through October 23rd. There will be prints for sale priced as low as £30. Their blog has more info.

Now available on the Faile webstore…

The Faile webstore was updated this week with a number of new items.

The latest version of their Bronze Bunny sculpture is a “deep cherry patina.” It’s the third in a series of 5 different colorways for this sculpture in bronze, each editions of 10. The sculptures are available online for $4,000 each.

The special “artist editions” of their new book have already sold out at $250 each for a few different screenprinted covers (editions of 50 each), but there’s always eBay. A signed version of the standard printing of the book is also still available for $69.

The Brave and Strong print is available in two colorways. The above version is an edition of 24 and is available for $2,000. There is also a one-off orange and blue print available for $7,500.

Sorry if this reads like an infomercial. I know a lot of people have said that Faile’s pricing is out of whack, but hey, the work sells and that’s a sign of something. Maybe it’s a just a bit unnerving for some people to see something available on an artist’s website for $7,500 like it’s a one-click purchase from Amazon. Personally, I think it shows some balls from Faile that they are trying to break out of the gallery system (both from the angle of artists doing the work of galleries and the way that they have eliminated the politics of “waiting lists” and the rest of the weirdness that comes with galleries). Anyways, I think Faile are making some nice pictures.

Megaphone print from OBEY

Shepard Fairey’s prints can be pretty hit or miss, but the Obey Megaphone is definitely a hit. The print will be for sale from a random time on Friday August 13th at the OBEY website. The print is an edition of 230 and, as usual with Shepard, the price is just an affordable $45.

VNA Issue 12 launches next week

Very Nearly Almost issue number 12 is launching next week at the Pure Evil Gallery in London. This issue of VNA features M-City, Buff Monster, Mr. Jago and more. Oh and then there’s the cover: Roa. I did the interview with Roa, but I think the most interesting part of that feature is going to be the photos. I haven’t seen the finished version yet, but it’s going to be something a bit different. I won’t spoil what makes that bird on the cover so unique, but you may be able to figure it out for yourself with some clever googling.

At the launch party, you’ll be able to buy a special edition of VNA with a screenprinted cover. Plus Mr. Jago will be there doing some painting. So make sure to stop by Pure Evil Gallery on Thursday the 12th from 6-9pm and let me know what you think.
