You have to check out the latest post on Hookedblog about London’s mysterious rainbow graffiti bike. On the one hand, yes it’s kind of mindless vandalism that even resulted in a car or two getting sprayed. On the other, this seems like a fun way to brighten up the neighborhood.

Shepard Fairey’ mural at Bowery and Houston in NYC has been a frequent target of attacks and modifications since before it was even finished. The latest addition comes in the form of a Target label. I think that there was a video I saw somewhere in which a member of the public actually confused the mural with the latest Target ad. Hyperallergic notes that the target image in the mural is probably actually a reference to Jasper Johns.

The post a few days ago about Banksy’s new pieces in San Francisco was only half the story. Looks like there are now a total of 6 new supposed works by Banksy in the city. Here are the rest:

At the start of Roa‘s visit to London, I posted about some pieces he’d painted on top of The Foundry. Did you think that was all he’s painted though? Of course not. Roa is one of the most prolific street artists I know. Here are a few of the other spots he was able to paint during his recent visit to the UK.

I think it’s fair to say that these three pieces that have just appeared in San Fransisco over the last few days are all by Banksy. Nothing confirmed yet on his website though. Two (the piece pictured above and the rat below) are above street level, and one is at street level. I think This’ll Look Nice When Its Framed is a great one. It continues Banksy’s commentary on the commercialization of his own artwork through canvases, screenprints and a film and it ties in nicely with the artwork that was removed from a street in LA last week. And the giant rat is just classic Banksy. Not so keen on this Peace + Love thing though.
Can anyone enlighten me on what’s being said here:
Maybe it’s referencing the song “Peace, Love and Understanding” and nothing’s really funny about it? Surely I’m missing something. After all, I thought Banksy’s Jeff Koons’ dog in LA wasn’t anything special until Tim McCool came along.

Keeping the urban art scene alive in Europe, Spanish street artist El Tono recently put his latest ingenious and experimental idea in to fruition by installing a number of white washed glass panels across the city of Coruña. El Tono’s idea was simple – To bring the essence of the street into the gallery. To do so El Tono would merely instigate the opportunity for the art work to be created, leaving the entire experiments out come completely in the hands of those who should past by. But of course the plan worked and El Tono would later find creative scratches and scribbles left behind on and around his panels, enabling him to create in this way a new and unique form of street artwork. Once El Tono was satisfied with the art work that he had captured, the panels were removed and displayed in at the Fundación Caixa Galicia during the MUAU in A Coruña. I sure hope those people got some credit!

It’s no secret that RJ and I are big fans of FAME (it’s also where we met, incidentally) and had an awesome time in Grottaglie last September. A few weeks ago, our friend Angelo announced this year’s tentative line up and when I spoke to him the other day, he mentioned that Swoon and Ben Wolf had just been to visit. Unfortunately, there are no photos of Ben Wolf’s work as it was destroyed before it could be documented, but there are some great images of Swoon’s gorgeous pieces, both in the monastery and around town. I really hope they survive over the next five months!
Let me know if you’ll be coming this year – Seth and I will be there for sure.
