Dave The Chimp

Looks like Elbow-toe isn’t the only artist releasing art for super cheap this holiday season. Dave The Chimp is holding his Lucky Dip sale for the 2nd year in a row.

Revok gets arrested (again)

Not long after his arrest in Australia, Revok has been arrested once again. This time, he was in LA.

The LA Times has got the story:

A reputed tagger who was paid $1,000 to be a featured “guest artist” at a self-described graffiti art store was arrested at the downtown store this weekend after authorities found him carrying spray tips, which are used in tagging, officials said today. Jason Williams, 32, who was on probation and goes by the name REVOK, was appearing Sunday as the guest of honor at the 33rd Graffiti Art Store, said Sgt. Augie Pando of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. The store was exhibiting Montana spray paint, a brand used by taggers, Pando said.

During a later search of Williams’ home, deputies found several hundred paint cans, a police badge and a fire extinguisher, Pando said. They also found a stolen detour sign and digital photos of his graffiti work on his phone.

I’m very interested to hear how the LAPD plans to show that those particular caps were used by Revok for illegal tagging. The fake police badge could be a bit of a problem though…

Grifters at Laz and a David Choe video

The crew at Lazarides have been busy. December 4th is the opening of their next show in London, and it’s going to be a biggie. The Grifters will have indoor work from more than a dozen artists including Conor Harrington, Lucy McLauchlan, Faile, Charlie Isoe, Mark Jenkins and Todd James and outdoor work from almost as many artists including Zevs, Mark Jenkins, David Choe and Vhils. Luckily, for those such as myself who will be away for the holidays, the show lasts until mid January.

Mexico at POW

I am very excited to go to Miami in December, but I am also epically disappointed to be missing this show at the new Pictures on Walls. I don’t know Smithe but Date Farmers and Saner are great and it’s something completely different from most of the UK scene. Londoners had better go and take loads of pictures for me.

This may also be a sign of things to come for POW. Their new open-but-not-really-officially-open gallery-but-really-shop-but-really-just-an-office space on Commercial Street could become a meeting point and hang out spot for the London street art scene, like Ad Hoc Art was in NYC. It could become a gallery, a shop, a print studio, whatever! I’m hoping for something like a print shop and occasional gallery.

See you at SCOPE-Miami

It looks like the whole Vandalog team will be together in Miami in a few weeks for the art fairs.

Congratulations to Gaia, a fellow blogger here on Vandalog, for not only being included in SCOPE-Miami with Irvine Contemporary, but also for getting the opportunity to create a 40 foot long mural the the fair’s entrance.

Elisa Carmichael will also be at SCOPE at the Carmichael Gallery‘s stand where they will have artwork from Boxi, Hush, Mark Jenkins, Nunca, Simon Birch and Sixeart.

And I will be in Miami to check out SCOPE, Basel, Primary Flight and all the other events and fairs.

How I feel today

I’ve been working on The Thousands since about 9:15 this morning, and this photo pretty much describes how I feel. But I’ll finish setting up tomorrow and then get some rest before the big opening on Wednesday. Thanks to CampBarbossa and Black Rat Press for coming by today and making sure the show looks awesome.
