Other and Labrona from Philadelphia to Baltimore
Earlier this month, Labrona and Troy Lovegates aka Other came down from Canada for a few days. Their first stop was Haverford, the small Philadelphia suburb where I go to college. At Haverford College, they painted a mural on the same building that Gaia painted last year. Then, they spent less than 24 hours in Baltimore, but took advantage of every second for painting and getting up. In Baltimore, Martha Cooper invited them to paint in SoWeBo, a part of town where she has been photographing the residents.

Young New Yorkers
Young New York: A Silent Art Auction & Fundraiser is an fundraising initiative for the Young New Yorkers (YNY) program, which aids and raises awareness for teens who have been legally classified “adults” and thrown into New York State’s adult criminal justice system.
The silent action will be happening Tuesday May 29th from 6pm-10pm at WhiteBoxes projects, and feature works by Steve “ESPO” Powers, LNY, Steven Holl, Gaia, Labrona, NohjColey, the YOK, ASVP, Doodles, Radical!, Feral Child, Cake, Ian Kuali’i and many others. All proceeds will go toward enabling workshops with successful artists, designers, teachers and social workers who will use creative theraputic methods to reach out to these teens in New York State’s criminal justice system.

Labrona shirts, now only $20
Last month, we relaunched The Vandalog Shop with two new t-shirts by Labrona. Initially they were priced at $30 each. But I screwed up. I’m not a math guy. Turns out, we didn’t really need to sell the shirts for as much as $30. Actually, we can happily sell them for just $20. Whenever possible, we will try to price items in the The Vandalog Shop at something reasonable and affordable. We said that last month. So why would we sell shirts for $30 that we could afford to sell for $20? We’re not trying to be greedy, so we’re not going to do that anymore. From today on, Labrona’s shirts will be available at The Vandalog Shop for just $20. And if you purchased one over the last few weeks for $30, you’ll find a $10 refund in your PayPal account.

New shirts from Labrona at The Vandalog Shop
Today we are relaunching The Vandalog Shop and kicking off a new series of product releases with two t-shirts designed by Labrona which are now available online. Starting with these shirts, The Vandalog Shop will be releasing a new product / artist collaboration every month. We will focus on releasing affordable products ranging from apparel to posters to whatever else we think would be fun. We can’t say yet just what else we’ve got up our sleeve, but these shirts by Labrona are only the beginning…
Labrona’s shirts are based on a new image called Lying in Wait. The shirts are unisex, come in two colorways of either purple and teal or blue and yellow, and each colorway has a print run of just 20 tees.
Why is Labrona the artist we chose to help us relaunch The Vandalog Shop? There are a lot of talented artists in the world, but Labrona stands out to me because he is one of the nicest and humblest guys around. The first time I met Labrona, he convinced me to buy a painting by one of his friends. It wasn’t until after he had left the room that someone showed me Labrona’s own artwork. We met again years later. That time, we slept on a floor with about a dozen other men and women at the Living Walls Conference in Atlanta. Some people might have complained about the accommodations, but Labrona was just ecstatic because he had the opportunity to paint a mural and put up posters in Atlanta. At Vandalog, I want to bring great art to as many people as possible, but that great art has to be made by artists who are great people too.
Both versions of Lying in Wait are available online now at The Vandalog Shop for $30 each plus shipping and handling.
The shirts were printed at Station16 in Montreal, and Labrona has also worked with Station16 to release a fine art screenprint of Lying in Wait. Each colorway of the prints is an edition of 16. The print is also for sale beginning today and can be at their online shop.

New prints from Labrona
Labrona has been busy lately working on seven new screenprints. They are all available online now. As a fan of ridiculously affordable prints, my favorites have to be Bowed and Crossed, which each come in a red colorway and a blue colorway and are part of Brooklynite Gallery‘s Snub Nose series. That means, that not only are that beautiful, but they are super-affordable. Each of the Bowed and Crossed prints are a 6×8 inch edition of 30 available for just $25. These prints are available online here, here, here and here.
Back home in Canada, Labrona has his Zombie Stance and Dog Man Rides Again prints at station16. Zombie Stance is 22×22 inches and an edition of 15. Dog Man Rides Again is 22×30 inches, an edition of 13 and available in both a yellow/blue and green/pink colorway. Zombie Stance and Dog Man Rides Again are each available online here for 100 Canadian dollars.

OverUnder, Labrona and ND’A Move Indoors to Williamsburg’s Pandemic Gallery
For the past few months I’ve been marveling at ND’A’s and OverUnder’s pieces that have been surfacing regularly in Bushwick and Williamsburg. I’m less familiar with Labrona’s work, though I loved what I saw of his in Carmichael Gallery’s “Re-Creation 2” at the Ogilvy Chocolate Factory last year. Williamsburg’s Pandemic Gallery is currently featuring the work of all three artists. The exhibit, PAPERBOYS, continues through Sunday, December 11th and is definitely worth checking out if you are anywhere in the NYC vicinity. Here are a few of our favorite images:

Paperboys: OverUnder, Labrona and ND’A
This is a show that I’ll probably make the bus ride from Philadelphia to NYC just to see: OverUnder, Labrona and ND’A are showing together in Paperboys at Pandemic Gallery. These three guys make great images and do it with a smile and a drive for adventure (well, actually I can’t speak for ND’A, but I assume he smiles and searches for adventure too). It opens on November 19th and runs through December 11th and is practically guaranteed to be a fun show.
