Weekend link-o-rama

Sorry for all the downtime on Vandalog this week. I dunno what’s up with Vandalog’s web host. If you have suggestions of a good web host that I could move to (even though I just switched to Gandi), let me know. Anyway, here’s what I’ve been reading:

Wow. Cannon Dill and Brett Flanigan painted some great walls together as they traveled across the USA earlier this year.
I always love checking in on what Mathieu Tremblin is up to.
BSA have been keeping tabs on Judith Supine’s recent wheatpastes in NYC.
Know Hope participated in issue 11 of Dispose, an publication where interesting people are given a disposable camera to take 27 photos in 24 hours.
Decertor really did a nice job with this mural in Morocco.
Liu Bolin got himself painted into a piece by Meres and Zeso at 5 Points, the graffiti mecca in NYC that unfortunately may soon be no more.
Did you catch Austin McManus‘ Partner in Crime photo series in Juxtapoz earlier this year? Now you can get the series in zine form.
LNY’s solo show at Solo(s) Project house in Newark just ended. But here are some photos.
Shift//Delete recently projected a video onto the famous Gherkin building in London and turned the building into a giant, masterbating, penis.
Planning to protest the G8? Peter Kennard has some great posters for you to download and use.
Blade is in the Netherlands for a series of graffiti jams and a show in Amsterdam.

Back from Boston link-o-rama

I missed last week’s link-o-rama because I was in Boston for the Barry McGee show at the ICA Boston. So worth the trip (more on that soon), but for now here’s what I missed:

Wow. So many great murals at La Bienal de Arte Urbano in Bolivia: Erica il Cane x Bastardilla, Charquipunk, Decertor, Inti… Definitely check those out.
Hooked visited with Gaia while he prepared a new linoblock print for his upcoming London solo show.
Josh MacPhee of Just Seeds is speaking tonight in Philadelphia.
A really great community mural.
A young Canadian Instagram user was arrested for a photo she posted of a piece of street art because they thought she made the piece. Well, if I ever go to Montreal, I guess I should be careful about what I post to my Instagram.
They sold out pretty quickly so I’m sorry I didn’t get to this sooner, but Essam (the artist who did those great NYPD/drone ad disruptions) released a few prints of those posters at 1xRun last week.
Russian street artist Pasha 183 (think along the lines of Banksy or SpY) has died at the age of 28.
The fantastic artist Nychos will be showing at the equally fantastic Galo Art Gallery in Turin, Italy later this month. A great pairing.
Cre8tive YouTH*ink & Centrefuge Public Art Project are raising money through Indiegogo to work with teens to make a series of murals in NYC.

Belated link-o-rama

Thanks to spending the weekend in NYC for Skewville’s show at Factory Fresh (on now and great), I am late with this week’s link-o-rama. Nonetheless, here it is:

When David Choe painted Facebook’s offices back in 2005, he was given two options: He could either take a couple thousand dollars as payment, or stock in the company. He chose the stock. Assuming that Choe has held onto that stock, the New York Times estimates that Choe may be worth $200 millions pretty soon. So of course, Choe ended up on the front page of the NYTimes and is being written about all over the web, but he is also a talented artist. Here’s some of what he painted in Facebook’s offices (he just painted their new offices as well) and here’s what Choe and a few friends got up to in Denver recently.
Eloquent Vandals, a film about the Nuart festival, is now streaming online.
Ron English has two great new sculptures that are well-worth checking out: Fat Tony (the tiger) which will be for sale as a toy and Hulk Obama, which looks like a customization by Ron that may or may not ever be for sale.
Another great wall by Phlegm in Sheffield.
Dabs and Myla have a touching Christmas tradition (now let’s get a fun discussion going in the comments about the ethics/humility of making a video about that tradition).
This collaboration between Reka, Ghostpatrol and TwoOne turned out really nicely.

Decertor in Peru

This piece by Decertor reminds me of Aryz from Spain, but of course done with paint rollers instead of spray cans, and it’s in Peru. Plus, Decertor is actually influenced by the masks of the Paucartambo festival in Cusco, Peru, rather than Aryz.
