Know Hope in New York

With the team at Carmichael Gallery sadly tearing down his installation today, I decided I’d give you all a little update on what Know Hope got up to next.

Know Hope "the times won't save you (this rain smells of memory)"

After finishing his work in LA, Know Hope flew to New York to represent Israel at “No Soul For Sale – A Festival of Independents” at X Initiative. Of course I’m biased, but I thought what he did there was, as always, very moving. I’m really enjoying the delicate thematic progression in his work these days.

Thanks for the photos, Luna Park!

Know Hope also found the time to get outside and do some painting in Chelsea before heading home.

These photos were taken by Chris Stain. I found them on Brooklyn Street Art.

Speaking of Chris, can it please hurry up and be August so we can find out what he and Armsrock have in store for us at their Ad Hoc show? All I know is that it is going to be nothing short of amazing.

Although I only planned to write about one, somehow I’ve managed to fit three of my favorite artists into this post!

Armsrock in Berlin

So these have been online for about two weeks, but I’ve only just seen them. Armsrock is one of the most promising young street artists I can think of, so I’m always interested in his latest work. Here are some street pieces from Berlin. More on his blog.

And here’s one piece from his show at Intoxicated Demons Gallery in Berlin. More info on Armsrock’s blog.

Armsrock Solo at Andenken

I wish I were headed back to Colorado before this summer, because one of my favorite artists is going to be showing at Denver’s Andenken Gallery this week. Armsrock‘s solo show entitled “The end of the world came and went without Mr. Jones noticing a single thing.” opens this Friday (March 6th).

Armsrock’s images capture the city and tell raw and unfiltered truths. Sometimes this means the images are violent and a bit scary, but they are always powerful and interesting. Here’s some work for the Andenken Show

Loving this stuff. Personally, I own two pieces from Armsrock, including a really cool diarama sort of thing that sits nicely on my desk, but this work is a whole new level.

Great In ’08: Elbowtoe Says…

As part of Vandalog’s “Great in ’08” series, which will be running every day for the rest of the month. Check out previous posts here. Street artists from across the world have been given one post to give away to one artist who they feel has been doing great work recently. Today it’s Elbowtoe‘s turn.

Who is one artist doing really great work right now?

Elbowtoe: Armsrock

I don’t get to see much of his work in New York, and working on the show with him in LA I got to see some completely fresh pastes. His approach to his choice of spaces and the total integration of his pieces into the environment is what really does it for me. I feel more than any other artist working out there that his work is empowered by the space that it is placed in, and that in turn really completes the piece.

Great In ’08: Armsrock and PaintGoggles Say…

As part of Vandalog’s “Great in ’08” series, which will be running every day for the rest of the month. Check out previous posts here. Street artists from across the world have been given one post to give away to one artist who they feel has been doing great work recently. Today Armsrock (whose show with elbowtoe opens at thinkspace gallery today) and PaintGoggles have both picked the same artist.

Who is one artist doing really great work right now?

PaintGoggles: One artist making great stuff right now is C215. C215 creates work that is beautiful and seemingly personal. He consistently makes paintings that are both delicate and aggressive. The use of light in his work is truly amazing. He is also crazy prolific.

Armsrock: One of the people who’s work in the streets continues to impress and inspire me, is C215.
To me he seems to be constantly exploring the idea of what stencil art can do and could be. His pictures have a wonderful way of acknowledging and integrating themselves in their surroundings, taking in regard the space and the people who inhabits it. There is something deeply compassionate and honest in his pictures, and I greatly admire him for that.

C215 has a show opening tonight at Ad Hoc Art‘s project room. See more photos of C215’s work after the jump… Continue reading “Great In ’08: Armsrock and PaintGoggles Say…”
