Two New Specter Pieces in New York
Honestly I’m stricken speechless by these pieces. Just considering the incredible amount of time dedicated creating these works and their immensely sensitive application just blows me away. I think I say this every time I write on Specter’s work but I just can’t stress enough as to how incredible these posters are. Whoever says that the New York street art scene is dead needs to walk around the city for a bit. Or you can thank Jake Dobkin for this great documentation and for doing all of the walking for you.
De dentro pra fora / De fora pra dentro
I’ve really been enjoying watching this beautiful installation take shape at Museu de Arte de Sao Paulo (Masp) recently. Curated by Choque Cultural, it features Titi Freak, Zezão, Stephan Doitschinoff, Ramon Martins, Carlos Dias and Daniel Melin, a list that includes some of the Brazilians I’m most excited about these days. Entitled De dentro pra fora / De fora pra dentro, the exhibit opens this Wednesday, October 18th.

How I feel today
I’ve been working on The Thousands since about 9:15 this morning, and this photo pretty much describes how I feel. But I’ll finish setting up tomorrow and then get some rest before the big opening on Wednesday. Thanks to CampBarbossa and Black Rat Press for coming by today and making sure the show looks awesome.
WK Blows Us All Up
I can’t believe it’s already been a week since WK Interact‘s latest solo exhibit, How To Blow Yourself Up, opened here in LA. For anyone Cali-based who missed the reception, you can still check out the work and installation at Subliminal Projects until December 5th. And for everybody else, here are a few pics from the night! It was definitely one of the most fun events over this way in a while.
Aside from the excited buzz in the air and line out the door of people waiting to get photographed and fingerprinted for WK’s awesome mug shot wall, the work itself did not disappoint. The gallery was decked out with a fantastic range of three-dimensional mixed media pieces (from wood panels, skate decks and boxes to a custom-built bike and a series of doors you have to see to believe) and there was even one of his mind-blowing Motion Portraits (my personal favorite).
Hype aside (and he’s underrated, in my opinion), WK is simply one of the most important street artists in the world and those who have the opportunity to see or own his work are just plain lucky.

Yote’s wolf pup
Yote is quickly becoming a very interesting artist. Since first getting up in June, he’s consistently been carving new and better blocks. I mentioned some of his animals here a few months ago. Here’s his latest piece, a wolf pup.

Photos from Neckface: Devil’s Disciple
I haven’t seen too many pictures from Neckface’s solo show Devil’s Disciple at OH-WOW Gallery in Miami. Neckface is so absurdly underrated here in the UK and I just don’t know why. Like David Choe, he does a great job of proving that just because an artist paints with water colors, it doesn’t mean they have to paint something that looks pretty. But with this show, Neckface seems to have taken steps forward and made serious sculptural works. Awesome. I hope you like these pictures as much as me.

Go Get Your Shinebox!
Frankly, the upcoming show Go Get Your Shinebox at The Brooklynite Gallery didn’t interest me at all. I didn’t plan on mentioning it on Vandalog. Then I was shown this video:
Look’s great, and word is that the works are all EXTREMELY affordable.
New Imminent Disaster and Blanco In New York
Props to Guero on the photos. It is nice to see some new work in this neighborhood. This spot especially has had an interesting history. As you can see there was an old old swoon piece right next to that pipe running along the wall, and an elbowtoe poster down the block. About two years ago I put up that horseman once the swoon piece was torn down and then everything fell apart. There was one individual who pursued every street piece in the neighborhood and effectively destroyed them with brown and orange spray paint. Considering how rich Gowanus was with street pieces, this was actually quite a travesty in my opinion. It went beyond the understood weathering of time and interaction to a place of unfortunate destruction. Whatever the intentions of the perpetrator were, they most definitely deterred anyone from going back and since then these streets have witnessed a real lull in new work. Given this background, it is wonderful to see Imminent Disaster and Blanco returning and I hope that the threat of "the brown burner" has finally subsided. I love how the paper cut over the old cheekz piece reveals the paint of that hateful individual.
