Fencing with Mutlistab

The Estonian duo Mutlistab‘s most recent project is to put colored cups in fences. Certainly not a new technique for making street art, but I’ve not seen anyone use this method to make such complex pieces. Usually it’s something like this. So good on Mutlistab for taking this simple idea to another level.

Saner show coming to LA, with free artwork

Saner at Pictures on Walls in London

Saner, a Mexican street artist whose work was recently on the cover of the US edition of Street Sketchbook: Journeys, has his first solo show in LA opening on July 29th. That would be interesting, but probably not particularly special. What makes this show so interesting is that Saner will be giving away all the art from the show for free to members of the public. The show is called Sequestro Express (Kidnap Express) and this video has something to do with it. Sequestro Express will be taking place at LA’s Mid-City Arts from 8-10pm on the 29th.

Weekend link-o-rama

Swoon in New York City

A day late, but here’s the link-o-rama. Let’s just say it feels like I’ve been competing, exactly one year on, with Ben Eine for the title of having had the strangest week. Here’s what I’ve missed:

Pics: Lush’s show in LA

Lush‘s LA show opened last week and it looks like he’s done it again. Some great pieces in this show making fun of street art and graffiti, specifically taking aim at Banksy and Keith Haring. Here are a few of my favorites.

TrustoCorp stays (mostly) positive

You Look Lovely. Keep It Up.

These new pieces by TrustoCorp recently appeared in Brooklyn, although I’m very curious to hear how long they ones on subway stop will last. Of course the subway pieces are similar to work that Darius and Downey did years ago, but it never hurts to put a positive message out into the world. Okay actually I’m not sure about that D&D thing. Yes, they did work on inserting things into subway stations that would look like they belonged, but did they ever hit these spots on the outside of stops? I vaguely recall something like that, but I can’t find an image. So maybe I’m wrong. Anyway, enjoy some new TrustoCorp work…

Everything Is Fine. LOL.

History of American Grafitti book signing w/ Taki183

Cost and Revs. Photo by Caleb Neelon

Tomorrow, the authors of The History of American Graffiti (Caleb Neelon and Roger Gastman) will be joining Taki183 at The Hole in NYC for a book signing. I haven’t had a chance to read the book yet, but from what I hear it is one of, if not the, best graffiti histories told so far. The book signing will take place from 7-10pm on Thursday at The Hole’s new location (312 Bowery). SNAKE 1, SJK 171, MIKE 171 and ROCKY 184 will also be there.

Here are a couple more images from the book:

Pantheon catalog launch reception

Earlier this year, the Pantheon show, curated by Daniel Feral and Joyce Manalo, took place across the street from MoMA in New York. The massive 426-page catalog is finally ready and will be launched this weekend. They are describing it as “a hybrid of scholarly journal, popular magazine, and graff zine” and it features over 400 images, nearly 20 essays and 20 interviews, covering 33 artists. The launch is taking place this Saturday at Do or Dine in Brooklyn from 6-8pm. RSVP by emailing rsvp@pantheonnyc.com.
