Shepard Fairey in North London

Right near Banksy’s recent piece in anticipating of the Queen’s Jubilee in North London, Shepard Fairey has just painted a piece. Fairey’s small mural (at least compared to the scale he’s used to working at these days) was organized as part of an effort by local residents working to revitalize the neighborhood and, like Banksy’s piece, is on Turnpike Lane in the borough of Haringey. The Guardian has more details as to how the piece came about, and Hooked has more photos.

Friends with skills in São Paulo

Nick Alive appears to be fairly skilled with a can. Nick Alive appears to be fairly skilled at making friends; friends with striking artistic ability. The result of all this is a mad display of the talent in São Paulo, Brazil. Fortunately for me, the documentation of Nick’s numerous collaborative pieces have networked much of this skilled community.

Living Walls needs your support and has a matching grant

LNY for the Living Walls Conference 2011

The team over at Living Walls in Atlanta has some exciting news this week. Possible Futures will match up to $10,000 of donations made to Living Walls between now and August 1st. Living Walls is, in my opinion, the best mural festival or conference in North America, but the conference relies on donations to make it happen. Thanks to Possible Futures, any donation you make now through August 1st will go twice as far, so even if you can only spare a few dollars, I hope you will consider donating to Living Walls.

“The Insider” by DEIH

I’m really liking this series, The Insider, that DEIH has been painting in Valencia, Spain. Looks a bit like something torn from the pages of a modern graphic novel, but hey, early graffiti had characters taken directly from comic strips, so why not?

The week isn’t over yet, but this week’s news is going to be old if I don’t mention it soon. Here’s some of what I missed this week:

Preview/studio visit: Lush’s London warehouse show

Lush is just about to sell out all over again with a massive warehouse show in London. This will be Lush’s first solo show in Europe. You Become What You Hate opens on July 5th at 6pm at a location near Hackney Wick Station. And you may want to think about showing up early because the first 25 people to arrive will each be given a special gift. You can register at Lush’s website to get a message when the exact location is announced.

Check out more photos from Lush’s studio after the jump…

New in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn: RAE, Gaia and Lelo

We don’t visit Bedford-Stuyvesant as often as we should, as its walls are among the most interesting – and least documented – around town.  But we did get over there earlier this week, where we discovered new work by RAE and Gaia and found a huge mural — overlooking a community garden — by Lelo, a street artist from Rio de Janeiro.

We love the way RAE has integrated the tree into his most recent public piece
