Banksy and War Boutique at Andipa Gallery

On June 8th, Andipa Gallery in West London will present War Boutique, the gallery’s latest showing of their acquired Bansky works. I would post photos of what they will be showing/selling, but the above image is all that was sent out. On June 6th, however, the gallery will post available works on their website. So check back then to see what people will be in line for come next week.

So apparently, that’s not the name of the show. Their press release was a tad confusing and it is two separate showings of Banksy works and a media artist named War Boutique. Confusion over.

BORF Releases New Works

This e-mail surprised me as much as it did you. As a former resident of Washington DC, BORF is a legendary street artist. From his antics at art university to his infamous unmasking after he was caught tagging the large Constitution Highway sign outside the center of the capital, BORF was a name surely to stay on everyone’s radar. But keeping quiet for awhile, it is nice to hear his name resurface, especially for releases. He shows and sells such little work, that seeing new pieces is exciting for fans.

Available through Papermonster, the first is a series of “Cars on Fire” done in oil sick sized 22 x 30 in. The other is from the watercolor “X-Ray” series he showed in DC last year. Just an fyi, these are the final originals available from both series.

Retna’s Hallelujah World Tour hits London next week

From June 9th-27th, Retna‘s Hallelujah World Tour solo show will be in London. The tour began in NYC earlier this year with a bang. Except something just as mad for this show, Retna’s first solo in the UK. Do not miss this, especially if you’ve never seen Retna’s work in person before. The show is taking place at The Old Dairy, 7 Wakefield St, London, WC1N 1PB and will be open Tuesdays through Saturdays from 11am-6pm.

DOTS parts 1-3 online now

A painting from James Jessop's "Subway Fiction" series

Parts 1-3 of DOTS, a series of films about London’s Burning Candy crew, have just been posted on Babelgum.com. The films follow members of Burning Candy as they travel around the world. So far, Luc Price aka Cyclops has visited India to work with signpainters, Rowdy has traveled to the Australian outback to see ancient wall-painting techniques and graffiti-history obsessed James Jessop saw New York City for the first time. Here are their stories…

(okay here’s a trailer first actually)

And now the actual films…

Bomb Chaser with James Jessop, which is without a doubt the highlight of DOTS so far and the one you should watch if you only watch one of these:

Beyond Cosmos with Rowdy:

Bollywood Clout with Luc Price aka Cyclops:

Also, James Jessop has a solo show opening tonight, also called Bomb Chaser, at Charlie Smith Gallery in London. Hooked has more info on that.

INSA at London Miles

I know Vandalog doesn’t usually post about non-street art shows, but the latest at London Miles Gallery off Brick Lane piqued my interest. The show is entitled Guilty Pleasures & Modern Vices, which artists will depict a modern version of the Seven Deadly Sins. The line-up consists of mostly pop surrealists and contemporary modern figurative painters, but among them is INSA. As a fan of his colorful abstracts and hyper realistic portraiture, I am looking forward to see what piece he submits. I’m thinking desire or voyeurism for his theme?

Logan Hicks at Opera Gallery NYC

Logan Hicks’ much anticipated solo show at Opera Gallery in NYC opens on Thursday. I saw some of the work for Pretty Ugly while I was in New York recently, and, as always, Logan is a master of technique. You don’t want to miss this show. Here’s a little preview of what to expect…

And don’t forget that Logan was interviewed for the latest issue of Very Nearly Almost.

DMV at work in France

Here are some behind the scenes photos that Butterfly took in France this week of the Da Mental Vaporz crew transforming the GHP Gallery that Vandalog covered earlier this week. I really can’t wait for pictures from the show to surface. It comes as no surprise that we are fans of DMV at Vandalog and is not confirmed whether or not I am a bit of a fangirl when it comes to dran‘s work.

The Urban Artist in Hamburg

From June 9th-14, the guys at Circleculture Gallery will put on a traveling exhibit starting in Hamburg entitled The Urban Artist. Featuring works by American and European artists, the show will highlight the stylings of contemporary urban artists bringing their art indoors today. The line-up includes: Jaybo Monk, Aaron Rose, Christian Awe, Anton Unai, XOOOOX, Stefan Strumbel, Kelsey Brookes, Marco “pho” Grassi, Marcel Walldorf, Various & Gould, Hellie Mardhal, Jonathan Yeo, Kevin Earl Taylor and Katrin Fridriks. A good mix of street and fine artists, the show puts together names that haven’t really been shown together before, which is an interesting twist.

Gaia @ Jonathan LeVine Gallery

Because Gaia’s works are so elegantly powerful on the streets — especially in semi-desolate, often bleak settings — I was somewhat leery of seeing his work in a gallery setting. But his current exhibit Succession, his first solo exhibit at Jonathan LeVine’s gallery, works, as Gaia has succeeded in transforming the gallery’s project room into an authentic urban environment.  The installation continues through June 25 @ 529 West 20th Street. 9th floor.
