Doze Green‘s latest solo show at Jonathan LeVine Gallery opens later this month. Luminosity in the Dark Rift open on May 19th alongside shows at Jonathan LeVine by Eric White and Kevin Cyr. I admit I haven’t followed Doze Green’s work super closely recently, but that pale character at the bottom-center of the above piece seems like something quite different and new from him.
Luminosity opens on the 19th (7-9pm) and runs through June 16th.
Leaving the West Country behind, Mau Mau hits London this Thursday with the opening of his solo show, Pigs Might Fly.
Running until Sunday May 13th at Westbank Gallery, the show promises to showcase Mau Mau’s distinctive style, “a blend of rural magic and political heckling”, encompassed through a range of mediums.
From the following preview photos this looks like one not to miss. I personally can’t wait to see those fox installations up close.
Dal East has his first solo show coming up this week in Milan with Urban Painting Gallery. While some pay say that Dal is just another guy painting animals and maybe that’s the case, he does also have quite a cool style and some real technical skills. I am looking forward to seeing what he brings out for this show, Fever of the Worn Land. If you can get an invite from Urban Painting Gallery (urbanpainting-at-ymail-dot-com), you can check out the show on May 3rd. Otherwise just wait until the 5th when it will be at a new location and run through the 23rd.
I discovered the East Village’s Dorian Grey Gallery last spring when it exhibited a wonderfully diverse selection of LA 11’s artwork. LA 11 is just one of many artists in Dorian Grey’s current exhibit, GroupeGRAFF, featuring work by an eclectic array of artists who have impacted — or certainly reflect — much of what has been happening on the streets during the past 30 years. Here are a few images from the exhibit:
Included too are works by: Aiko, ERO, Keith Haring, Jeff Henriquez, Mau Mau and others. Distinct pieces by Banksy and Swoon are also featured. A particular favorite — as it’s literally a piece of graffiti history — is a segment of a door from the legendary Mudd Club tagged by the likes of Keith Haring & Fab 5 Freddy:
An opening reception will be held tomorrow evening, April 28th, 5-8 pm. The exhibit continues through May 16th at 437 East 9th Street near Avenue A in Manhattan’s East Village.
Exciting week next week: Troy Lovegates and Labrona will be coming to Haverford to paint a mural here, so look forward to some pictures of that… If I find the charger for my camera. Also, I’ve taken the plunge and I’m finally on Instagram. Here’s what I’ve been reading this week:
I’ve mentioned this before, but here’s a reminder that No Longer Empty is hosting a talk about the Fashion Moda this Sunday moderated by Joyce Manalo and including Stefan Eins, Lisa Kahane, Crash and Lee.
Roa’s 2-part solo show Hypnagogia is on now in London. Half of the show is at Stolenspace, and half is down the street at The Stone Masons. Here are some photos from the portion of the show at The Stone Masons. Check over here for photos of the portion at Stolenspace, and over at Arrested Motion for more photos from The Stone Masons.
The London Police are getting ready for their first solo show in Newcastle at Unit 44. A Night with The London Police opens on May 11th (6-9pm) and runs through the 18th. So it’s not actually just one night with TLP, but if their past openings are anything to go by, that will be the night to go and check out the show. In addition to prints and paintings at the show, The London Police will be painting a “huge” new mural while they are in Newcastle.

Retna‘s latest solo show opens on April 24th at Art Careyes Gallery at the Costa Careyes resort in Careyes, Mexico. And yes, I just repeated “Careyes” 3 times, but it’s not my fault that everything relating to this show seems to have that in the name. Anyway, the show is called Time Traveler. Here’s a beautiful video trailer for the show:
A huge fan of Veng’s larger-than-life signature character that surfaces frequently throughout NYC and beyond, I was delighted to discover another side of his talents in his small, delicately-rendered birds — largely fashioned with watercolor and ink on paper — at Mighty Tanaka. Here are a few more images:
The exhibit, The Birds and the Bees, also featuring work by Gigi Chen, continues through May 4th at 111 Front Street in Brooklyn’s DUMBO district.
