LA’s Morley hits London

Morley recently came over from LA to hit up London. I’m pretty impressed with the above spot. Have any UK street artists tried to hit up one of the busiest subway stations in the city, one that is absolutely rife with CCTV cameras? No doubt this trip has something to do with Morley’s upcoming project with Lazarides Gallery, so let the debate about advertising versus art ensue.

Two new pieces from Sam3

Here are a couple pieces that Sam3 has painted this month. Great as always. The billboards are in Murcia, Spain and the mural below is dedicated to the Spanish Revolution and painted in Poznań, Poland.

Roa at White Walls Gallery

Here are a few videos of Roa‘s recent time in San Fransisco painting walls and doing a show at White Walls Gallery (there’s a bit of overlap as the first video is by Colin M Day and the next three are a separate series by Spencer Keeton Cunningham):

Artist puts Ai Weiwei’s face on Chinese consulate

"Free Ai Weiwei" posters at Tate Modern

The disappearance of the artist Ai Weiwei is something that I haven’t mentioned on Vandalog, but it’s been at the front of my mind offline for almost two months now. Weiwei has been missing for more than 50 days. If you haven’t heard about this (or you just want to keep up to date on the news), check out this site.

Last Friday night, Geandy projected an image of Ai Weiwei on the Chinese consulate building in NYC. Here’s a video:

DMV Crew Gets Together in Toulouse

I am always excited when I cannot read a press release in English, but since Da Mental Vaporz is one of my favorite crews, I had to deal with the difficulties of deciphering French. In Toulouse, GHP Gallery is closing its doors and as a last hoorah, all of the members of DMV ( Dran, Bom-K, Brusk, Sowat, Gris, Jaw, Kan and Iso) are coming back to transform the gallery. The show opens May 27th, so make sure to head down there.

And also, here’s a decent video for shits and giggles of the crew painting a massive mural at Supermassy last year.

3rdEye(Sol)ation, a spacious new gallery space at 1501 Broadway in Bushwick run by Jose Castillo, will be hosting its first street art exhibit on Friday, June 3, 7-10pm. Curated by Jason Mamarella, it features an array of artists from both coasts: Billi Kid, Peru Ana Ana Peru, ASVP, Mike Die, Jos-L, dint wooer krsna, Quel Beast, Septerhed, Choice Royce, Kosbe, QRST, Trixtr Rabbit, Bankrupt Slut, CCB, Wisher 914, ZamArt . When I stopped by earlier in the evening, Kosbe was at work on a wall which will be part of an extended open gallery. Some prints had just arrived from LA — which introduced me to the work of Septerhed.  The exhibit will open in conjunction with the Arts in Bushwick Art Walk, 6/3-6/5, noon to 7pm.
