I didn’t intend to post anything more about Mr. Brainwash’s Icons “art show,” but then Animal New York make this hilarious video:

Was looking at the website recently and notice that it said first 300 people at the show got a hand finished screenprint!!! Might explain why there was such a long line at the show opening!!

You couldn’t pay me to own the average MBW screenprint, though I’d love to get one for free and ebay it… He did the same thing for the first 200 people at his LA show.

Hideous, horrible, a nightmare. And it’s everywhere. Not beautiful or ironic or skilful, it just makes me want to cry looking at it. So stupid.

Just saw ‘Exit through the gift shop’ It’s so sad that people are so ignorant to buy this man’s art. It takes no talent at all to copy others work and mark it as your own. I’m so glad that Banksy / Invader / Shepard Fairey got to show us all how “Mr. Brainwash” got his big break. I’m sure anyone who understands what happened in his documentary will never buy a piece of his work. I’d rather wait to see one of the other guys art on a public wall and take a picture myself, I don’t need someone to mimic it and throw a price tag on.

It was sad to see all of the brainwashed fans, they obviously had never seen the documentary! lol BTW did anyone notice, he’s not talking to any of the people in line, it’s almost like he just sees people who want to buy his art. He see’s dollar signs not fans.

If you watch the extra footage on the DVD, MBW is invited to do a piece in a collaborative show. If that work were being graded by a high school art teacher he would fail!

He’s trying to represent a barcode but the lines aren’t even straight! Basic stuff like perspective, shading in the right places, colour combination is evidence that an artist UNDERSTANDS his craft. MBW and the people who like his stuff don’t understand the basics of art .
It’s up there with people paying shit loads of money to see Britney Spears lip sync.

This man is either a economic genius or has serious mental problems. He is just like the other artists who exploit art and sensationalism in order to make a shitload of money. Art is not dead, but the art world is certainly in hell.

I just watched the film “Exit Through the Gift Shop” and I couldn’t agree with you more. Mr. Brainwash is the perfect name for him and his fans. He has dangled a used flashing carrot in front of the art world and all the flakes have been drawn to it like moths. Has he even created anything himself without using clipart from someone else’s work? He’s like most of the rap artists ripping of tracks because they don’t have the talent to create it themselves. Wake up people! Maybe I should just start re-creating his prints and spray paint the words “Rip Off” on it and sell them for $15,000. Any suckers?

I kinda think the whole thing is a hoax. To brand MBW as a copycat and holding up banksy and sheperd fairey as originals is funny. I like some Bansky…but he is nothing new in the realm of post graffiti art. I think he knows that and is laughing at this whole thing. Bansky as the poster art child for street art making millions is funny. If this whole thing is a hoax that would make it an amazing film…if not I feel Bansky looks like an ass. Clearly MBW is unstable and to manipulate someone who is obsessive compulsive makes you the jerk not the other way around. Kinda like the police officer beating the schizophrenic for acting crazy. Get over it.

I still hold out some tiny bit of hope that he’s an elaborate hoax, but that hope is fading with time. He becomes famous because of a film that shows him to be an unoriginal fraud who produces rip-off vacuous ‘art’, yet because of this fame people spends tens of thousands of dollars on his work. So, they KNOW he’s the worst ‘artist’ around & yet they spend the largest amounts of money on his work! &, best of all, they try to justify their love for him & his work by saying he is the opposite of what he actually is (a street artist, orginal, etc etc).

Now THAT makes more sense of his ‘Mr Brainwash’ title!

I couldn’t agree more….If only art collectors would see the flaws in the steaming pile of crap they bought. I can only hope that they learn their lesson after buying his “art”. It takes a long time to study and correct your art to become flawless(even though you never will be, exactly.) and then you have so little time to execute your plans because art takes time…..Mr. brainwash whipped these up in probably a couple of weeks….he is a disgrace to artists.
