RJ had mentioned Woodward Gallery’s new exhibit, “From the Streets Up,” last week, and it is, indeed, wonderful. Opening this evening from 6-8, it features intriguing street art sculptures in different media by a range of artists crossing generations, cultures and sensibilities. Here are a few more images:
Co-curated by Royce Bannon and Cassius Fouler, the exhibit continues through July 31 at 133 Eldridge Street on Manhattan’s Lower East Side.

From the Street Up is a show coming up soon at NYC’s Woodward Gallery. The gallery invited artists Royce Bannon and Cassius Fouler to co-curate the show, which focuses on sculptural work by street artists and public artists. The line up includes John Ahearn, Richard Hambleton, NohJColey, Leon Reid IV, Skewville, Gabriel Specter, Stikman, UFO and more. That’s one of the most interesting and impressive lists for a group show that I’ve seen in a while. Some of my favorite artists will be in this show, including a few like Hambleton, UFO and Stikman who don’t show their work indoors very often.
From the Street Up opens July 6th from 6-8pm.
We made it over to Pandemic Gallery’s current exhibit ALL TALK! earlier in the week and loved the way it presented the works of some of our favorite artists whose work surface regularly in the public sphere. We also loved the incredible mix of aesthetic sensibilities. Here’s a sampling:

I’ve seen and loved Gabriel Specter’s lyrical artwork on the streets of Brooklyn. But it’s a delightful surprise to see it indoors on the walls of my local community center. Specter’s portraits — inspired by members of the JCC community on Manhattan’s Upper West Side — are now on view until March 1 at the Laurie M. Tisch Gallery of the JCC @ 334 Amsterdam Avenue & 76th Street. Wooster Collective’s Marc and Sara Schiller will join Specter for a talk and a reception this Wednesday evening, January 18, at 7:30. Here are a few of the images that grace the JCC:
