Hyuro paints a massive wall in Copenhagen

Some things need to be seen in person. In terms of massive murals, a picture may be able to transmit small details of a piece and/or the overall wall, but not both at the same time. Hyuro‘s new wall is no exception, so while I am providing several detail shots, it is probably impossibly difficult to get a decent picture of Hyuro’s 271 meter (889 foot) long mural in Copenhagen as a whole.

Hyuro recently had a solo show in Copenhagen. What dazzles me about Hyuro is this cross between slides of an animation and public murals. Despite the fact that she must have painted dozens of deer, the pieces translates as one deer running through a forest. Hyruro has done several murals that seem like stagnant frames of an animation or motion picture, and frankly it’s incredibly that movement translates so well through a mural. While I have not been fortunate enough to see her work in person, I can only imagine what it would be like to walk down this street in Copenhagen and see this mural animate itself.

Henrik Haven’s Copenhagen – Part 4

30 IMG_1202

In the last week, I’ve posted part 1, part 2, and part 3 of our 4-part series of Henrik Haven‘s photographs of Copenhagen graffiti (and a bit of street art). Here is the final post in the series, which I am really loving. Throughout this series, rather than mention some artists in the photos and neglect others, I’m just going to leave the photos without artist credits.

Henrik Haven’s Copenhagen – Part 3

Last week I posted part 1 and part 2 of our 4-part series of Henrik Haven‘s photographs of Copenhagen graffiti. This week I’ll post the second half of the series. Here’s part 3. Once again, Haven has captured some really amazing pieces. Throughout this series, rather than mention some artists in the photos and neglect others, I’m just going to leave the photos without artist credits.

It’s damn near impossible to get a sense of a city’s street art or graffiti from a handful of shots, but Henrik Haven has gone above and beyond with this set of photos of graffiti in Copenhagen. We’ll be posting the photos in four parts over the next few days. Rather than mention some artists in the photos and neglect others, I’m just going to leave the photos without artist credits. Read the names if you’re interested in who painted what.

Armsrock – Upcoming Projects

Been meaning to get this up on Vandalog for a while. Armsrock, one of my favorite artists, is going to be very busy in the next couple months. Here are three great projects for fans and collectors to look forward to – a solo, an outdoor presentation, and a 2-person exhibit:

“Zettelkasten” will consist of a site-specific installation that draws upon the people and environment around Sankt Hans Gade, where Armsrock was born and raised. It opens February 5 at We Are Related in Copenhagen and runs through March 14 2010.

“Bispeengbuen”, also in Copenhagen, runs from February 10 – 28 2010 and will feature new atmospheric and rhythmic light drawings from Armsrock. I love it when he does this style of work. Find out more about the project here.

Now I’m particularly excited about this third show, as it takes place in LA and I’ll be able to go to it! Here, Armsrock will create a collaborative installation with Imminent Disaster at Thinkspace. More on all these shows soon!
