Late link-o-rama this week. Troy Lovegates and Labrona are visiting to paint a mural at Haverford College, and it’s the week of all my final exams. Here’s what I’ve been reading to distract myself:

Jorge Rodríguez-Gerada in Argentina and Barhain

Yousif Manama Bahrain. Painted in the city of Manama, Bahrain

Here are new beautiful new walls by Jorge Rodríguez-Gerada.

The wall shown above, “Yousif Manama Bahrain,” was made in Bahrain as part of Al Riwaq Art Space’s Alwan 338 festival. The portrait of one of Bahrain’s traditional fishermen is part of Rodríguez-Gerada’s Identity series. What I did not realize until now about the murals in that series is that they are temporary pieces, washing away in the rain. Here’s a timelapse of the piece being drawn and then fading away:

Marcos Zotes appropriates, subverts and activates

Marcos Zotes gained a lot of attention last fall for this projection in Brooklyn. Recently, he did two projections at Columbia University, where he is a research fellow. The first was with permission and displayed messages submitted to yourtexthere.org. I haven’t seen any documentation of how that projection turned out. The second, Appropriate, Subvert, Activate!, was done without a green-light university. For Appropriate, Subvert, Activate!, Zotes projected a series of phrases about the the use of supposedly-public space onto Columbia University’s Low Library. Great use of an otherwise blank space that looks like it was perfectly designed to display text.

Tristan Eaton at work in Williamsburg, Brooklyn

One of our favorite walls in Williamsburg is the one fashioned by Tristan Eaton on Fillmore Street off Roebling. For the past few days, he’s been back on Roebling bringing his stylish visual rhythms once more to NYC before leaving for the West Coast. Lenny Collado – my fellow street art and graffiti aficionado – has been busily documenting the work in progress:

And here’s a close-up of Eaton’s riveting rendition of Mickey Mouse spray-painted onto a board that will surface soon in Brooklyn:

Katowice Street Art Festival – part 1

Poland is playing host to some of the world’s most talented street artists and muralists for the Katowice Street Art Festival. From April 20th to the 29th, the festival will feature artists such as Escif, Hyuro, Mark Jenkins, Ludo, M-City, Olek, Roa, Moneyless, and many more. Here are a few of the pieces already in progress or completed. There are many more photos on the festival’s facebook page.

Ludo’s piece is a massive wheatpaste that incorporates paint. It looks great, but the one worry I have for this piece is that someone will probably have to paint over the eyesore that’s left when the paper weathers and inevitably comes down.

New walls in Baltimore
