Keeping an eye on Brooklyn

Marcos Zotes’ project CCTV/Creative Control took place on October 1st in Greenpoint, Brooklyn as part of a Nuit Blanche celebration. He projected a video of an eye onto the underside of a 10-storey tall water tower, turning it into a massive Big Brother-esque eyeball. There a video of the intervention here, if these photos aren’t enough.

Mr Penfold and his Berlin Bandits

Mr Penfold has been rather busy recently. Firstly here are a couple of his new fantastic pieces in London.

And secondly, Mr Penfold and his fellow Berlin Bandits, Billy and Low Bros, are teaming up at the end of the month to put on an exhibition of paintings at NeonChocolate. So if you are in Berlin, or fancy a weekend break, then make sure you hit the city between October 29th and November 4th and check out the show. It should be (to quote Billy’s favourite word) RAD!

I Art Soweto

I Art Soweto is the latest stop for the I Art SA project that Adidas and Ricky Lee Gordon’s A Word of Art have put together. Here’s a film by Rowan Pybus of Makhulu with some of the people of Soweto (a suburb of Johannesburg) and the murals that were made for the project:

From Tabriz, Iran: Icy and Sot Focus on Human Rights

Based in Tabriz, Iran, Icy and his younger brother, Sot, began crafting stencils in 2006. Since 2008, their stencils have graced not only the walls of their city, but galleries in Iran and abroad. Particularly appealing about their work is their focus on human rights issues, particularly child labor. Here’s a sampling:

Visual Intervention in Rochester

Over the summer, Rochester, NY was treated to a few new murals by street artists from South Africa. Ian Wilson, founder of The Synthesis Collaborative, brought those artists to Rochester and organized a series of walls with Dal, Faith47, Freddy Sam and Mak1One and as well as Rochester-based artists. The project, Visual Intervention, tried to bring the simple message of “believe” to Rochester in an effort to improve the community. This video tells that story:

Portrait of Steve Jobs in France

This weekend I’ll be in Boston. If you have any ideas for what I should get up to, leave a comment. I’ll definitely be checking out Swoon’s installation at the ICA Boston. Here’s what’s been going on in street art while I’ve been locked in my room studying all week:
