JB Rock in Rome

JB Rock is an artist working in Rome. Some really great work. It’s graphic and the impact is immediate, but JB Rock also has his own styles and doesn’t look like he’s just recycling stereotypical street art styles. He does go over graffiti though…

Woodward Gallery Presents: Lady Pink Evolution

Back in the day, Lady Pink was the most prominent female among the graffiti artists who painted trains.  While she still maintains a presence on the streets — we saw her murals last week, in fact, in the Bronx and in Queens – her works are currently seen in a range of venues including galleries and museums. Her current exhibit Lady Pink: Evolution  — a testament to her evolution as an artist continues through December 30th at Woodward Gallery at 133 Eldridge Street on New York City’s Lower East Side.   Here’s a sampling of images that Tara captured at this evening’s opening:

Vhils at Woolfest (yes, wool)

Vhils recently chiseled a wall in Covilhã, Portugal for Wool, an urban art festival in a town which has been closely tied to the wool and textile industry since the industrial revolution. The organizers of Wool say “With this piece VHILS wants to talk about the desertification of the interior of Portugal, which appears to be irreversible and portray the reality that we live in a territory with a population growing older, ‘where the cuts and the current measures are felt even more hardness and where most of young people are future opportunities and are forced to seek them elsewhere, either on the coast or abroad’.”

Stinkfish and Other Transform Brooklynite Gallery into a Swirling Visual Wonderland

With intricate patterns and elegant shapes,  South America’s Stinkfish and North America’s Other have created a strikingly beautiful exhibit celebrating the richness of humanity.  Thinkers of This opens tomorrow – Saturday evening – from 6-9pm at Brooklynite Gallery at 334 Malcolm X Boulevard. It continues through November 26th.

Here’s a brief preview of Stinkfish’s images:

This week just keeps getting better. Looks like we’ve got a bit of NYC coming to Philadelphia with a show curated by Matt Siren. Here’s what I meant to blog about this week:

Paul Insect – Triptease Revue Opens at Post No Bills

Paul Insect, Left Wall Print Line-up

As RJ mentioned a bit ago, Paul Insect has a new show in Los Angeles. A lot of care went into hanging and lighting this one, with the bulk of the work focusing on thematically-appropriate low light and dedicated spots on the pieces to highlight Insect’s bold colors. That being said, the darkest part of the gallery seemed to be the biggest draw, as visitors lingered around the Peep Show Box located in the middle of the room for a chance to peek through the lens. “Triptease Review” runs through December 1st at Post No Bills: 1103 Abbot Kinney Boulevard, Venice, CA 90291.
