The battle for Los Angeles’ public space

You know those annoying LA street artists who popped up after Mr. Brainwash’s story in Exit Through the Gift Shop inspired everyone in that city who wasn’t starring in a film (and some who are) to start putting up posters and stickers? Well, some of them do have at least one redeemable quality: They disrupt advertisements. And that’s what Cyrcle and a few others talk about in this film for Pharrell’s YouTube channel i am OTHER. In terms of info about the ridiculous mural law battles in LA, it’s not a bad piece (although there’s no appearance from Saber, this in only part one of the story). Just try to ignore all the cheesiness from the artists.

Two shows worth checking out this week

Roid

Tomorrow night sees the opening of two rather good looking shows. First up for all you London folk is Roid’s debut solo show, More Than Ever. Judging by what I have seen Roid produce in the past, this show looks like one not to miss. But be quick, its only open until June 3rd.

And secondly, we travel East to Bristol to Art-el Gallery and the opening of a solo show by Erms – Everything begins with an E. Again, the following video looks quality, so get down there and check out the art on show.

Sam3 collaborates with the buffman

Sam3‘s latest piece is this wonderful attack on buff. His forced collaboration with the graffiti removal squad/person re-energizes the wall and makes the mismatched buff into something to be noticed. I wonder what the next bit of buff on this wall will look like. Maybe this can be an ongoing collaboration, like this piece by Mobstr.

Do not miss: Jaz in Barcelona

Jaz at his show

Franco Fasoli aka Jaz has his first European solo show on right now at RAS Gallery in Barcelona. It looks absolutely stunning. I was fortunate enough to see one of the canvases from this show while it was being finished recently in Baltimore, but I’m extremely jealous of anyone who is lucky enough to see this full show in person. SUBEN, who produced the show, have more info about it as well as available works on their website.

Here are just a few of my favorite pieces from this show:

This piece, like many pieces in this show, was painted primarily with tar
