Ur New York Making it Happen

50 cent’s new video just dropped, but guess who hooked it up? Destroy/Rebuild blessed the production with their classic light graff and matrix like camera work. Props to 2esae on catching work during the filming

Eine in Los Angeles

Eine has been out and about in LA over the past few nights painting his classic letters on store shutters around West Hollywood. Here are some examples of his work on La Brea and Melrose Avenues. It’s been great to see the response of people unfamiliar with what he does – it has all been overwhelmingly positive so far.

Eine’s show opens on Thursday evening, July 9th. Here’s a peek at what he’s been working on in the gallery, just the beginning of what is going to be quite an elaborate installation.

Willoughby Windows Preparation

Here are some photos from an amazing two days of preparation for the Willoughby Windows Project. Beautiful photos and on point documentation from the omnipresent Luna Park and Rebecca Fuller. Check out Luna’s flickr set for the in depth coverage.

Garrison at Ad Hoc writes:
Ad Hoc Art presents
“Willoughby Windows”
Friday, July 10th, 2 – 7pm
An ambitious creative venture featuring 12 storefronts on an entire block (89-106 Willoughby) of downtown Brooklyn which will highlight installations by 15+ artists. The opening will be a street party on Friday, July 10th, from 2-7pm.

Some of New York’s artistic finest will be representing to the fullest. (DO I feel a Biggie Smalls homage here?) Some of the artists included in this event will be Ad Hoc Art staff/interns, Cannonball Press, Chris Stain, Cycle, Dennis McNett, Ellis G, Gaia, Greg Lamarche, John Ahearn, Josh MacPhee, Lady Pink, Logan Hicks, Mare139, Michael De Feo, Morning Breath, and Tom Beale.

The party will be featuring entertainment by DJ $mall Change, DJ Painted, Lady Circus, and Mickey Western and food from local vendors.

Alex Hornest at Galeria Thomas Cohn

This is a guest post by Elisa Carmichael. Elisa also writes for Slamxhype and works at The Carmichael Gallery.

You may know Brazilian artist Alex Hornest better as Onesto, the name he first used when painting on the streets with Os Gemeos and Vitche over a decade ago. Alex tends to use his real name in gallery shows these days, where he displays his amazing sculpture, canvas, and mixed media work. His next solo show opens in Sao Paulo on July 4th at Galeria Thomas Cohn. Judging by the flyer and what he’s done in the past, this is a show worth paying attention to.

While it’s tough to understand if you don’t speak Portuguese, the clip video below is definitely worth a watch to learn more about Alex. The interview is interspersed with clips of him painting a street piece as well as examples of other work around Sao Paulo.
Alex is also featured in this month’s issue of Juxtapoz.

RIP – Iz The Wiz

I Love Graffiti reports that Iz The Wiz, one of the legendary graffiti writers featured in both the film Style Wars and the book Subway Art, has passed away. Snort This says that Iz died on the 17th of June of a heart attack. You can’t help but admire this guy. He wrote until the day he died.

Shepard Fairey with Deitch Projects

After maybe a month of rumors, it seems official: Shepard Fairey has some sort of relationship with the famed Deitch Projects. This piece, Patagonia, is being shown by Deitch at Art Basel.

shepard deitch projects

If this leads to an exhibition or Fairey being managed by Deitch, it could mean big things for Fairey. Over the past month, a number of Fairey’s works have changed hands on the secondary, and demand for his work seems higher than ever. I think most would agree that Fairey is a smart businessman, and there isn’t much of a smarter move for increasing the value of his work and exposing it to a more “contemporary art” audience than getting together with Deitch.

Banksy Show Rumors

UPDATE (12:56am): As the night has worn on, I’ve lost confidence the validity of this photo. I think there is at least a 50% chance that this photo is either fake, part of ploy/decoy, or only one component of the Banksy Summer Show. So no more rumors, you can probably just disregard this post, and let’s all wait until Friday or Saturday to hear all the real info about the show.

As mentioned yesterday, there is a Banksy show confirmed to open on June 13th. Other than that, not much is known. Personally, I haven’t even been following the rumors too closely, but this photo is too interesting to pass up.

Bristol Street Art Sneaky Pic

That photo was taken by Bristol Street Art through the door of Bristol’s City Museum, and is very similar to the Glastonbury Stonehenge piece that Banksy did in 2007 at the Glastonbury music festival.

This has led to rumors of a retrospective at the museum, which was closed today and is also closed tomorrow.

On the other hand, the unofficial (I assume) Banksynews twitter gave the clue “animals” about the show on May 22nd and that doesn’t seem to fit so well with a museum retrospective. So I guess we’ll just have to wait until the 13th to know for sure.
