While down in Puerto Rico this past fall for the Los Muros Hablan festival, I met a number of local artists – new to me – whose work intrigued me. Among these was Philip Cruz aka Pun18 whose surreal images fuse elements of comic, graffiti and pop art. These are two recent works Pun18 shared with me.

I love the way Nether’s graceful portraits of everyday folks — pasted onto abandoned and decaying spaces in his native Baltimore — interact with their surroundings. His current exhibit Crumbling Cities at Weldon Arts provides a wonderful glimpse into the world that Nether has created in Baltimore and in his travels. Here are a few more images:

It was great to see RAE included in RJ’s list of 10 Street Artists to Watch in 2013 published over at Complex, as I’ve been a huge fan of RAE since his folksy, endearing characters first started surfacing on the streets of NYC. Here’s a bit of a preview of what the folks in London will get to see beginning tomorrow — Thursday — evening over at Signal Gallery:

The vitality and intrigue that Tony DePew, Toofly and Quelbeast have brought to the streets are wonderfully captured in a series of portraits on exhibit in Vis-á-Vis, a handsome show over at Mighty Tanaka in Dumbo, Brooklyn. Here are a few more from over a dozen striking images on exhibit:

There’s a raw elegance to Kosby’s aesthetic that has intrigued me since I first came upon his stickers and paste-ups a number of years back on an array of public surfaces in Brooklyn and Manhattan. It’s great to see it now gracing the Woodward Gallery Project Space on Manhttan’s Lower East Side, where it is visible to so many. Here are a few close-ups from the four-panel installation, Borrowed Time, that officially “opened” this weekend.

In NYC this past weekend for the opening of AgitPOP, a group exhibit curated by Anthony Haden-Guest, London-based artist Stik also made it to the Winter Mural Project at Bushwck Five Points.

Working with ink, acrylic and tea on canvas, South Africa-based artist DALeast has created a wondrous menagerie of hauntingly beautiful animals in Powder of Light, his first solo exhibit in NYC. The somewhat curious scientific titles of these pieces on exhibit at Jonathan LeVine add a material dimension to their spiritual essence. Here are a few more favorites:
