With intricate patterns and elegant shapes, South America’s Stinkfish and North America’s Other have created a strikingly beautiful exhibit celebrating the richness of humanity. Thinkers of This opens tomorrow – Saturday evening – from 6-9pm at Brooklynite Gallery at 334 Malcolm X Boulevard. It continues through November 26th.

I don’t think it gets much better than this: Troy Lovegates aka Other and Stinkfish have a show together coming up at New York’s Brooklynite Gallery. For all the talk these days about the end of street art due to rampant commercialism and Johnny-come-latelies, these two artists buck the trend and show that true energy and love of art is still alive and well on the street. Their show is called Thinkers of This. It opens November 5th and runs through the 26th. This will almost definitely be one show that should not be missed.
Featured in USA Today’s Pop Candy blog as one of three coffee table book recommendations, Graffiti 365 by Jay “J.SON” Edlin is much more. An ambitious global survey of the key graffiti writers and street artists of our time, it serves too as an ideal reference guide. Here is a small sampling of images that accompany the writing:
Jay will be at Art Basel Miami Beach in early December. Meanwhile, my favorite post-publication photo is the one captured of former NYC mayor Ed Koch, who waged an aggressive campaign against graffiti back in the 80’s, signing GRAFFITI 365. (Thanks, Jay, for sharing it!)

Is it time for another link-o-rama already? The week has flown by. Except for when I had to read the multiple formal press releases I received this week which promoted artists’ gallery shows by talking about a recent campaign of wheatpasting that they were doing solely for the purpose of promoting their shows. Bleh. By contrast, Stinkfish has been in London for a bit and just seems to be getting up with posters, spraypaint and other materials because it’s fun. Here’s some of the things I’m not going to be kinda bitter about this week…

Another show in London this Thursday evening. This time at Pictures on Walls. It’s the London book release party for Nuevo Mundo, a book about Latin American street art that comes highly recommended. The event will include a signing by the author, Maximilliano Ruiz, as well as many of the artists featured in the book (Thiago Alvim, Yusk, Don Lucho, Inti, Kelp, Saile, Stinkfish, Jorge Rodriguez-Gerada, Buytronik, Cix, Mones, Basik, Jade Physe Wesr).
Disasters is the theme of a collaged mural currently underway in the hallway of the FUSE Gallery in the East Village. 26-year-old Lorenzo Masnah has been collecting, enlarging and painting over and on newspaper and magazine images of global disasters, tragedies and human rights violations for years. His politically-infused work has been published in zines and books and exhibited in a variety of gallery and alternative setting in New York City, LA and in his native Bogota, where, along with Stinkfish, he is a founding member of the APC (Animal Planet Collective). Lorenzo’s newest work will be the subject of an exhibit at FUSE Gallery next year. In the meantime, this mural is definitely worth checking out – if you’re anywhere in the vicinity of 93 2nd Avenue between 5th and 6th Streets in NYC’s East Village.
A simple tip for all you aspiring street artists out there: take a page of of Stinkfish‘s book and take interesting photos of your art. I’ve been enjoying these new walls from one of my favorite Colombian street artists, but what really sets them apart from similar walls by other artists is that Stinkfish puts some thought into the damn photos, which become as interesting as the art on the wall. Faith47 is good at this too.

Somehow, I’ve never before posted Stinkfish‘s artwork here. Stinkfish is a street artist and graffiti writer from Bogotá, Colombia and I think he’s really good at what he does.
What I probably enjoy most about Stinkfish is that he has a few different styles and techniques. He will use stencils, paint freehand, tag, sticker or wheatpaste, and the work changes stylistically with each technique.
