The SCOPE art fair’s Miami iteration should, as always, have a few booths of interest to Vandalog readers to year. SCOPE opens on the 29th and runs through December 4th. Make sure to stop by these booths: Mallick Williams for Skullphone and Love Me/Curtis Kulig; Jonathan LeVine Gallery for Olek, WK Interact and Aakash Nihilani; Dorian Grey Gallery for Richard Hambleton (and maybe LAII); and New Image Art Gallery for Maya Hayuk and Retna. Of course, all those galleries will be exhibiting other artists as well, those are just some highlights. And there should be plenty of else of interesting. For the last two years, SCOPE has been where I’ve seen some of the most interesting indoor art in Miami.

On Every Street is a show opening this Thursday at Samuel Owen Gallery in Greenwich, CT. Curated by Michael de Feo, it features the work of dozens of street artists. On Every Street includes a diverse of street artists both in style and (from Hargo to Tony Curanaj) and when they were active outdoors (from Richard Hambleton to Gaia).

Because I missed this post last week, this is kind of a long Link-o-rama. Definitely at least check the first link here.

• Most important article in this list: How the current NYC graffiti removal policy is seriously fucked up and needs to be changed.
• It’ll be interesting to see if Mr. Brainwash reacts to this. By the way, I met him last week and he signed my black book. As terrible as I think he is, I couldn’t pass up the opportunity. Maybe one day I’ll put the page on eBay and retire on the proceeds. Hopefully not. To be fair though, he was a super nice guy even though I think he knew that I hate his artwork, so that’s big of him.
• Interesting commentary on Art in the Streets from Eddie Colla I guess, but I can’t ignore that he signed the work and even included a QR code. I’m pretty sure he would’ve participated in Art in the Streets had he been invited. In fact, he is part of a group show that opened on the same weekend as MOCA’s show.
• Artinfo interviews Retna.
• Is graffiti unfair competition when the artist starts working indoors? I don’t think that’s the intent of most writers or street artists, but this might be the case for street artists who are just using the streets for the purpose of advertising.
• Maybe the best street intervention I’ve seen all month.
• The Chinese government is afraid of some political street art/graffiti.
• That illegally buffed mural in LA was unbuffed by the graffiti removal company. Haha.
• An interview with Leon Reid IV.
• Dadara’s guerilla banking project.
• Maya Hayuk and Jen Stark will be at Show & Tell Gallery next month.
• A critique of Art in the Streets and street art and graffiti in general by someone who hates and doesn’t understand the culture.

Well, I was expecting to see my family today, but snow in London have half of them stuck there. Luckily, snow where I am in Colorado is keeping me busy. Too busy to post very much unfortunately. Here’s what I’ve been missing:

• Roadsworth is Lisbon. Definitely check this out.
• Todd Seelie took some great photos of Monica Canilao and Saelee Oh making a beautiful installation in Detroit.
• M-City killed it in Miami even though his stencils arrived days after he did.
• While I didn’t care for Banksy’s latest print release at all, he did give the proceeds (almost £100,000 in total) to a great cause.
• Yellow Pants‘ first show, at Montana’s gallery in Lisbon, looks fabulous. With art from Remed, Zosen, Maya Hayuk and others, how could it go wrong?
• I’m way late on this, but Ron English made some shirts with Hurley earlier this year.
• Sometimes Mint and Serf (who work together as Mirf) do some interesting things. Other times that say crazy things. In an interview with Brooklyn Street Art, Mint said this “So back in April I designed the original Mirf poster and put a bunch of them in Russia. It was one of the first times I’ve seen graffiti being put up on the street but with wheat paste.” While he’s not taking credit for inventing wheatpasting for graffiti, he’s definitely taking too much credit for something that isn’t particularly innovative in 2010.
• DabsMyla and Greg Simpkins teamed up for this great mural in LA.
• World War Won’s new logo for Hackney would be a perfect way to spice up their image a bit.
• Postermat, the latest show at The Hole in NYC, sounds like it will either be awesome or really really terrible. If you go, let me know what you think.

I’ve been out of the loop and stuck in libraries lately (and then in Miami for the weekend), and that’s led to me miss posting about a lot of things. I’ve got some catching up to do, so here’s the start of that:

• EPOS 257 built a fence in a public square in Prague. A. It reminds me of Richard Sera’s amazing Tilted Arc and B. Seems like a great way to screw with the local bureaucratic government. I guess there’s the important question left though of if the public actually thought about anything when looking at the work. I’m hoping that some did, but perhaps it was too nondescript to provoke much thought.
• Cost’s newspaper box (mentioned recently) was stolen from the street and ended up on eBay. The winning bidder paid over $4,000!
• The first show from YellowPants Gallery will open in Lisbon this week with a great lineup including Maya Hayuk and Remed. More info here.
• If you’re feeling the recession, you’ve got to check out this artwork by Patrick Martinez.
• Evan Roth gets clever with the TSA full-body scanners.
• SF’s Ratio 3 Gallery will be holding a solo show of Margaret Kilgallen’s work in March.
• Ending on a very sad note, Brooklyn Street Art has received word from Faust that his friend and fellow graffiti writer Sure has died while serving the USA in Afghanistan.

In a lot of ways, Hargo sums up Miami's art fair week

With so much of the art world migrating to Miami this week in a frenzy, there seem to be too many events and parties (and I promise not to blog about the parties in detail. This isn’t a gossip site) and exhibits and festivals and everything else to keep track of. Here’s a roundup of some of the things that I’m most interested in seeing (or not seeing).

Things that have already been mentioned on Vandalog:

• This year’s Primary Flight mural project has an impressive list of artists including Roa, Escif, Retna and Boxi.
• Fresh Produce looks to be a solid group show of graffiti and street artists.
• There will be some new Cash For Your Warhol billboards.
• Retna has a solo show at the new Primary Projects space.
• Wynwood Walls is a mural project (among other things) with some big-name artists but questionable motives.

And things that I haven’t already blogged about:

• Elisa Carmichael has her list of Miami must-sees, which includes a Dan Witz book signing and a Trespass book signing with Marc and Sara from Wooster Collective and Carlo McCormick.
• Sorry to bring this up, but Sanrio’s exhibition of Hello Kitty art is just annoying. They got some great artists like Jim Houser to paint Hello Kitty characters. I’ll be avoiding this show like the plague.
• I mostly go for Ryan McGinness’ really abstract work and this isn’t that, but McGinness fans will probably want to check out his solo show.
• Barry McGee will be showing work and signing books at Ratio 3′s book in Basel Miami.
• Jonathan LeVine Gallery has a pop-up show as part of Wynwood Walls. Some of the artists include AJ Fosik, Judith Supine, Doze Green, Dan Witz and WK Interact.
• FriendsWithYou are filling a park with giant blow-up sculptures.
• Last year, OHWOW Gallery’s It Ain’t Fair show was one of the most interesting shows in Miami. Once again, they have a killer line up for the show including José Parlá, Rey Parlá (José’s brother who is, I believe, a filmmaker), KAWS, Phil Frost, Barry McGee and Neckface.
• OHWOW Gallery are also opening a bookstore at The Standard Hotel in Miami.
• New Image Art’s pop-up show includes Neckface, Judith Supine and Os Gêmeos. Probably going to be a must-see.
• Tristan Eaton and his partners are launching Contra Projects with a wide-array of events this week including a tent/lounge space, a mural (by Mr. Jago, Tristan Eaton, Ron English and others) and a TrustoCorp carnival aka TrustoLand. More info on the Thunderdog blog.
• Carmichael Gallery, Joshua Liner Gallery and others will have booths at SCOPE, and I think Maya Hayuk is painting a mural there, which should be awesome if I’m remembering that correctly.
• And of course there’s all the fairs I haven’t mentioned, because there are just so many. So many. Too many. It’s gonna be art overload. But if I’ve missed anything that you think is particularly special, please leave a comment.

This link post is definitely going to be a weekly thing. Hopefully it will allow me to link to things that I just haven’t had the time to cover here on the blog, my Twitter or Vandalog’s Facebook page. So here’s what you may have missed in street art this week:

• My Love For You Is A Stampede of Horses and Arrested Motion have two sets of amazing photos from Fecal Face‘s 10 year anniversary show at The Luggage Store in SF. This show has a pretty sick line up including Barry McGee, Margaret Kilgallen, Jim Houser, Swoon and Maya Hayuk.
• Nychos’ solo show at Pure Evil Gallery (in cooperation with End of The Line) opened on Thursday. Go here for the press release sort of info or go here for photos from the opening.
• That I May See, Matt Small’s latest solo show, opened last week at Black Rat Projects and it looks absolutely stunning. My family and I can’t thank Matt enough for his support of the Robert Shitima School in Zambia, which is where Matt and Black Rat Press have decided to donate 40% of the proceeds from this show.
• Eelus, Logan Hicks, Eine, Lucy McLachlan and others are headed to Gambia next month for the Wide Open Walls project.
• OFFSET has once again put together an interesting conference of creatives who will be speaking next month (October 1st-3rd) in Dublin. OFFSET 2010 will have presentations from Gary Baseman, Steve Powers, Marc and Sara Schiller of Wooster Collective and many more. Early bird tickets are available online for 150 euros (with discounts for students thankfully).
• A very touching work of street art in Brooklyn.
• Just Seeds has put together Resourced, a set for political posters that you can download and print at home. There are designs by Gaia, Armsrock, Chris Stain, Josh MacPhee and many more artists.
• When I first heard about JR’s new Unframed project, I didn’t really care for it. Basically, JR is wheatpasting other photographers (often famous) photographs around in cities. To me, this sort came out of left field. I don’t mind when Blek le Rat does similar things, but with JR, I always liked the stories behind the photos as much as the images themselves. I thought that with Unframed, that aspect of the art would go away. Luckily, Angelo at FAME Festival reassured me in an email and said once I learned more about the project, these would be just as interesting as the rest of JR’s art. Because I trust Angelo, I waited and didn’t write anything about Unframed or JR’s piece at FAME Festival. Earlier this week, Hi-Fructose’s blog posted a better explanation of the project as well as some photos of Unframed taking place in Switzerland. As usual, Angelo was right and after reading that post on Hi-Fructose, I’ve been convinced about Unframed.

Another thing that I missed while I was out of touch with the rest of the world was Maya Hayuk’s first prints at Pictures on Walls. These prints are beautiful, like a lot of Hayuk’s art. Even though she’s been around for years, I only came across Hayuk this past December. At first, I wasn’t sure what to think of what I saw, but now I know what to this: This woman is brilliant.

Unfortunately, both of these prints have already sold out, but I thought I would just share the images anyway.

Somehow this one has slipped under my rader. Maya Hayuk had a show open earlier this month at MU in Eindhoven. I think MU is a sort of museum space, but I’m not sure. I’d never paid much attention to Hayuk’s artwork until I saw it in the flesh last December. Now I can’t get enough of it. Ultra, Ultra Deep Fields is primarily Hayuk’s show, but there are also some collaborations with Ben Wolf, another artist to keep your eyes out for. MU has made this video about the show:
