Belated link-o-rama

Thanks to spending the weekend in NYC for Skewville’s show at Factory Fresh (on now and great), I am late with this week’s link-o-rama. Nonetheless, here it is:

When David Choe painted Facebook’s offices back in 2005, he was given two options: He could either take a couple thousand dollars as payment, or stock in the company. He chose the stock. Assuming that Choe has held onto that stock, the New York Times estimates that Choe may be worth $200 millions pretty soon. So of course, Choe ended up on the front page of the NYTimes and is being written about all over the web, but he is also a talented artist. Here’s some of what he painted in Facebook’s offices (he just painted their new offices as well) and here’s what Choe and a few friends got up to in Denver recently.
Eloquent Vandals, a film about the Nuart festival, is now streaming online.
Ron English has two great new sculptures that are well-worth checking out: Fat Tony (the tiger) which will be for sale as a toy and Hulk Obama, which looks like a customization by Ron that may or may not ever be for sale.
Another great wall by Phlegm in Sheffield.
Dabs and Myla have a touching Christmas tradition (now let’s get a fun discussion going in the comments about the ethics/humility of making a video about that tradition).
This collaboration between Reka, Ghostpatrol and TwoOne turned out really nicely.

Retna’s alter-ego: Brimstone

I’m told, although it’s certainly not the easiest thing to read, that this Retna mural (organized by Primary Flight) says “Brimstone MSK” and that Brimstone is a sort of alter-ego for Retna. Can you read it? Either way, there’s a great video showing the work in progress…

Faile explain their Challenger image

In this video with Ride5 Films, Faile explain the use of the space shuttle Challenger in their work. Coincidentally, their explanation sounds a lot like the John Fekner’s random date work from the 1970′s.

Weekend link-o-rama

Well, the internet went a bit crazy this week, but it looks like we’re winning. Thank you to anyone who noticed that Vandalog was offline on Wednesday in protest of SOPA and PIPA and took the time to contact their representatives to voice objections to the bills. But enough about politics. This is an art blog.

This Mark Jenkins exhibition in Berlin looks awesome. The show has new sculptures, but it is also the launch of his monograph with Gestalten.
In a subway station a bit like the site of The Underbelly Project, a number of Russian street artists painted this installation.
Here’s a beautiful new piece from Phlegm.
Above has a bunch of new photos on his website.
The Toasters’ film launches in London on Tuesday.
Barry McGee will have a show this year at UC Berkeley’s art museum. The show is made possible by a $100,000 grant from the Andy Warhol Foundation.
Leon Reid IV‘s latest project is pretty different from what we’ve come to expect from Reid. It’s a series of posters depicting recent world events. Hrag Vartanian spoke with Reid about the series.

Mobile street projection around Atlanta

When I was in Atlanta last August, it was nearly impossible to go more than a couple of hours without finding something by Evereman. A lot of his artwork is done in the form of magnets so that people can take the art home with them, but he also has a projector that he puts in his car so that he can drive around town projecting the Evereman symbol. Last month, Evereman teamed up with interactive video projection artist Pablo Gneccco and self-described hacker Dan Moore on a mobile projecting event. Here’s what they got up to:

Os Gemeos and Koyo in Italy

Happy almost new year to everyone. It’s been quite a year, but I’m on vacation, so there’s no end-of-year round up from Vandalog. Instead, just the usually weekly round up (which includes some end-of-year round ups of course). Also, thank you to everyone who read the 7000+ words this week about Artists 4 Israel. I know politics is not the usual topic of this blog, but I think those posts are among the most important items on Vandalog all year, as are the founder of Artist 4 Israel’s comments on each post. Anyway, here’s what’s up recently:

Looks like the Season Ticket fair in London was a hit. Sweet Toof even painted people’s nails. One fan sent over these results of Sweet Toof’s efforts.
Futura has been working on some new pieces for a show in Paris.
The lead photo this week is from this series of photos that Luna Park took in Grottaglie, where FAME Festival is held.
The Atlantic has some insight into how Vhils goes about making a mural.
HowAboutNo! has collected his favorite photos of the year into this post.
How can you not like Tryone’s “Drive By Shooting” piece? Definitely similar to work by Brad Downey and Akay, but cool nonetheless.
The LA Weekly has a list of their top 10 street art stories of the year. It’s not bad. Obviously LA-centric, but who can blame them?

La Preciosa – the graffiti boat

Recently, five of the Vertigo Graffiti artists (Gris, Cazdos, Skida, Ecksuno and El Pez) painted a boat in Taganga, Columbia called La Preciosa. Here’s a video of the process:
