Here’s some of the amazing stuff that happened in Melbourne last month. I’m sorry it’s so late – I am already working on the March post. Damn I am proud to post about my home town. So much goodness every month. Enjoy!
We started off the month with a great show by Dabs Myla “All Good Things” at Metro Gallery. Back in their hometown the guys put on an awesome show, the quality of the work was brilliant and intricate as expected, I’m really glad I finally got to one of their shows and to meet them in person.
They also had a paint in Fitzroy with SDM and friends. By far my favourite piece was by DVATE. A tribute to Louis Marnell a local skateboarding legend!

Love this LUSH piece he did with Sofles and Maid.
Herakut came to visit us, starting with a paint up in Union lane Melbourne.
Then another in Fitzroy (as part of their Giant Storybook project).
A few Melbourne locals also came down to paint the other side of the wall (an old funeral parlor apparently).

CDH is always doing interesting little projects. Here’s a couple of recent ones he did in February.
Firstly there’s “serial authorship” an interesting and interactive idea posting several different posters around the city and surrounds, and watching how they evolved. Some interesting and humorous results.
“Street Art Reviews” on the other hand created quite a stir within the Melbourne street art. (Much of which is documented on CDH’s blog). The idea was similar to the recent Street Museum of Art in NYC. CDH always welcomes feedback on his projects, so here’s mine. I thought the idea was great, in fact I agree with many of his sentiments to some extent. I thought the execution, however, was a little poor. In particular naming local (and international artists) and using them as examples. Many of the artists can paint so much more than the examples used in the project so I disagreed with those reviews. The idea, I liked. I say keep it up CDH, however controversial, like your street art reviews suggest, we need new and interesting ideas in street art.
If you like the work by Junky Projects featured in one of CDH’s reviews I recommend you check out his site here. One of my favourite Melbourne street artists. In this case I think CDH was 100% accurate in his review.
Be Free and Erin Greer had a show in Collingwood called “Monster and the Girl”, you might remember Be Free from my interview on Vandalog last year.
As usual Dean Sunshine brings the goodness in his February top ten. My favourite piece below. I was lucky to be able to spend 3 days watching Adnate paint this. Amazing. Also watch out for an interview with Adnate on Vandalog coming soon.
Another massive month in Melbourne. God I love this town!
