Peace on the streets

“See no evil”

Based out of Hawaii, Cryptik is known for brining popular Eastern philosophy iconography to Western walls. The hand-painted script by this man, who is described by the Huffington Post as ”reclusive, fastidious and soulful,” apparently stems from a background in “gang graffiti.”

I suppose it’s fair if he comes from a Cholo-style / gang graffiti background, but it does disappoint me a bit that Cryptic (perhaps unintentionally) promotes this idea that there’s a lot of “bad graffiti” and “gang graffiti” out there, when really that’s a real minority of the graffiti in the world. I know it’s not a fair criticism to be upset about him talking about his history, but I guess I just wish he had a different history, haha…

I think his work is great! Also, I really rather see this splattered about than the old school graffiti that you see out there. I mean let’s face it that stuff just makes our cities so ugly and bad looking. It turns our beautiful urban neighborhood communities look crime ridden.
Only good can from this type of street art ” Peace On The Streets ” ! ;-)
