Faile

This “prayer wheel” popped up recently in New York City. Don’t expect it to last long though, after all, its only made of wood.

A number of these were in Faile’s fall show in London in 2008, and it’s great to see them on the street. If I remember correctly, the wheels are all hand carved and painted (though if that’s done by Faile or by some assistant they’ve hired who knows woodworking, I’m not sure).

They are lovely objects, but I guarantee the hands who carve these are not the hands of Faile.

which of course brings up the whole debate about the factory aspect of so many artists’ studios today… but that’s a topic for somebody a bit more knowledgeable than I.

an artist isn’t someone who can paint or carve, infact in my experience people with great craft skills are typicaly very left brain and not usualy imaginative or broadly creative at all. And particularly original creative thinkers i find usualy too quick or impatient to be bothered to spend hours doing the tinkering. Of course there are exceptions to the rule.

It’s gone now anyway, surprised it lasted a few days.
